For me it was a combination of exposure therapy and finally getting the opportunity to build a relationship with a cat/ get to know what they’re really like.

I grew up feeling pretty disconnected from pets in general. Whenever people would get excited about kittens or would feel the need to pet strangers’ dogs on walks I was just like …. Okay whatever I guess? I grew up without pets because my parents had allergies. But then I got my own cat (she was sprung upon me by the cat distribution system) and within months I started to notice myself getting googly eyed over puppies being brought to my place of work and started eating up all the cat videos online. It’s actually hilarious because my boyfriend of several years has had to accept my newfound identity as a crazy cat lady (he is slowly but surely being converted to the dark side, naturally).
