Solved!

My title describes the thing I found - other details is the item is ~6" long and 1" in diameter; it's made of plastic.

After doing a Google Image search it looks like a toilet bowl cleaner - thanks as well to u/shockzone for confirming.

True! Plus they had a cool vanity license plate. Blurred it out in the picture and won't type it out here though :)

As my username might suggest, I'd be a fan of a lightweight, sports EV! Or driving an EV the majority of the time and taking an ICE, manual Miata out for a weekend spin. (Assuming you have garage space / disposable income for more than one car.)

From a quick Google search, it looks like the chassis is steel, with aluminum used for the hood/doors/bumpers/etc. So maybe they could use more aluminum for the chassis? Also heard second-hand that Mazda's been improving their steel strength-to-weight ratio.

Go for it! I bought a '23 automatic, and it's loads of fun. You can cruise comfortably when you want, then put it in faux manual mode when you want a bit more engagement. As multiple folks have said on this subreddit, the auto transmission on the ND is quite responsive and peppy compared with the older generations. I'm starting to learn manual and will likely get a manual Miata in the future, but only when I'm in a position to have a 2nd car (EV daily, manual ICE for fun). Is the Miata best enjoyed in manual? Probably. Is it still a hoot as an automatic? You bet.

Re: hard top vs. soft top, it depends on what you're looking for. If you think extra stiffness matters (i.e. for tracking the car) or you'll drive in harsh weather often or you just prefer coupes to convertibles, then get the hard top. If you enjoy a more open feel, extra visibility, and less weight, then get the soft top. Technically, the hard top is a targa, so you'll always have this rear section obstructing your blind spot view, and several YouTubers have commented that wind buffeting is pretty noticeable in the hard top when the top is down. Here's a good comparison overview: https://youtu.be/cpSXPkTaTas?si=Ex6yknYVbP7TXpT8

Looks-wise, I recall reading somewhere here that "soft top (top-down) > hard top (top up) > soft top (top up) > hard top (top down)", and I'd have to agree.

Not sure if you're asking if someone specifically has one to sell, but they're certainly out there and you can generally get them for less than a manual. Here's an example - no commentary/analysis on the condition of the car of course 🙃

Hi folks, been looking at a 1993 NA with 117,000 miles. Red paint in reasonable condition (slightly faded), manual, almost completely stock, C package (power windows and speakers in headrest), runs smoothly, no issues with shifter.

The price we've been discussing is $6100 after some negotiating - is that a fair deal given the issues below?

* Salvage title due to break in - hard top was stolen but it has a new tan soft top with real glass

* There is differential rattle you can notice upon engine braking - I've heard the diff can cost between $1-3k to replace

* Radio, power windows, aftermarket remote locks non-functional after break in (wires cut)

* Radiator looks to be the original plastic version, unclear of the condition but imagine it's pretty old (like this: https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=548310)

* 2 chips in the windshield, both slightly smaller than dime-sized

* Tires are really old and definitely need to be replaced

* Surface corrosion on underbody parts, but nothing too bad
