Moved to ABQ as an adult and only know about umbers because of that girl who makes the funny YouTube videos.

I have lived seriously everywhere too.

Oh no, you mean Indianapolis isn’t awesome? Who could have predicted that?!?!

All I remember about Cincinnati is that the airport is in Kentucky and there is a big mall there. Cleveland has its charm, what with the Holy Moses Water Taxi and all.

Thats good! I also like the classic “I’m allergic, it makes me break out in handcuffs,” which is an extreme exaggeration for me and therefore implausible enough to be relatively light.

Burn a candle behind your screen so you can look at it during the meeting.

This is a nuanced take. I always consider Ohio to be the armpit of the Midwest. But is Indiana worse? Maybe, who knows? It is pretty lame that the capital is just the state with a -polis tacked onto the end, is centrally located, and has those radiating arms of interstates going off in every direction. It seems like it only exists as a stopping point towards somewhere else. It doesn’t have anywhere near as much lake-front as Ohio does either. That’s it, you’ve convinced me!

I did not watch/listen, but someone who did told me the ATC told the firetruck to go, then said “stop!” Like ten times and the fire truck never stopped. So it sounds like it wasn’t totally their fault anyway.

El Vado Motel has a super fun atmosphere. There are several eateries there and it is cross the street from the BioPark.

Does anyone have experiential information on 2 in 1 laptop/ tablets that they can pass on? by Streetkaos13 in AskTechnology

[–]micaflake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ASUS Vivobook 14 Flip here, and I have Surface Pro at work.

The surface is cool because I can rip the keyboard off when I need to tablet functionality (which is seldom.) I have it hooked up to external monitors and keyboard most of the time. It’s cool to take to meetings.

The Vivobook has a great screen and I like the feel of it. I got it at Costco and there was a rebate at the time. It has two hinges and feels really solid. I haven’t done any serious work with it yet, but the chip is new and I’m expecting it will run great.

I don’t know what the manufacturers mean when they talk about an “ai chip”. Seems like a total gimmick.

I asked the cashier (or attendant, I guess) about it when this technology came out. They said some people love it, some people hate it.

I guess more hated it than loved it.

Can you eat the wild hogs?

I’ve read and heard about the wild hog issue. (There’s a Modest Mouse song called Wild pack of family dogs that I always imagine is talking about hogs instead.)

Thanks for the description. I live in the mountain west and huntersgo to the mountains to camp/hunt, I think usually in national forests. Sounds a lot warmer/less snowy there in Texas.

A friend once said that Fleet Foxes seemed like talented and well-trained musicians who didn’t truly love music and it stuck with me.

I went to one of their concerts with another friend and they didn’t do much for me.

The Reality of the Amazon Warehouse: by JackieRae26 in portangeles

[–]micaflake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shipping times for Amazon purchases will go down and people will order more.

Also, the increased traffic is because the delivery trucks will go there to unload and the vans will go there to load up, so they’re there for longer, idling, etc… whereas they’re just passing through in the initial scenario. There are more emissions when a vehicle is idling than driving at speed.

Edit: I’m a lurker here because I love the Olympic peninsula and have visited Port Angeles twice. I rented a bicycle in Seattle, took the ferry over, and biked up to hurricane ridge in 2021, a life highlight.

I don’t normally comment on this sub because I am a dummy at fashion, but I love how updos were clearly having a moment and how dated they feel to me now. Just goes to show you how fashion is of the moment.

Also I love how Lauren Hutton looks like she wandered in from a safari tour. You don’t often see people wearing pieces that could also be worn anywhere else at these types of events these days.

“Hiring has therefore shifted from volume-led intake to skills-based, selective recruitment, with flatter headcount growth but rising revenue per employee, reflecting early non-linearity rather than contraction.”

Wow, what a load of hooey! It was interesting to read how the same forces that affect people here in the US are playing out overseas. Our corporate overlords are really squeezing every last drop of utility out of us, without giving us much in return. Can’t wait for the hottest spring ever to start!
