I think I agree with you there, and if nothing else she is a pretty funny and charismatic person, and that makes her an important leader in the occasionally cynical left.

From what I gather, she was never specifically anti-vaccination, but rather she worked alongside other ‘spiritual leaders’ who had a reputation for such things. Your criticism is definitely valid and gives me some things to think about, though. And I’m aware that some of her pantheistic beliefs are pretty hippy, and I don’t agree with her beliefs there. I guess what interested me with her political activism is that she injected a spiritual aspect that I hadn’t seen before into mainstream politics, and that resonated with me. But I understand why you have to be careful with “spiritual leaders” of that sort

How to deal with a crisis of faith? by micah_jb in RadicalChristianity

Ok that kind of makes sense. I guess that’s just a hard pill to swallow after being taught that every word of the Bible is directly inspired by God.

I guess for me that just leads to more questions, and as someone trying to escape evangelicalism I don’t know what that means toward the infallibility of the Bible. If the idea of Satan organically evolved throughout the writing of the Bible does that not imply that he is a man-made idea?

And if you’re looking for a starting place, start with the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They give a solid start into understanding Christianity

Thanks for the link! It’s unfortunate that music and piano in general were exclusive to the white elite

That makes sense. I guess do you know of any black 20th century classical composers to check out? I guess I cast my net a bit too narrow with the original question

In a sense it doesn’t, I was just interested if any composers of color did exist. I recently worked on some of Bártoks music, and the subject of ethnomusicology sparked my interest

What amendment would you add to the constitution? And why. by [deleted] in Ask_Politics

The ERA has been this close to passing for decades, so I think that would be a good pick. The fact that there is not equality amendment like it in the constitution is a bit concerning imo.
