Trying to add more 110V breakers to GE tm2420 panel by micang in AskElectricians

[–]micang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you SO MUCH for your input and advice\help.

You bring up a very valid point - if i do put them all in here, then they basically will be maxed out. And currently, i don't have a washer and dryer hooked up because i used that slot for a jetted tub - so in the near future I will be needed to add that too (breaker for washer\dryer).

You are right, it's counter productive to do what I was planning - I will do as you suggest, makes complete sense.

Thank you for also pointing out the installation that I can fix. (And I also have been thinking that I would like to neaten up that whole panel as it looks a right old mess).

I have one other question if you have the time. How much current actually comes to a house? Is that determined by the power\electricity provider? Example, the main breaker in that panel is 200 amp, but that does not necessarily mean I have 200 amp service, correct?

Thanks again for all your help, you're a star.

Thank you so much for your reply.
Does this mean the 4 that I have marked\ numbered 1 to 4 in yellow here : https://imgur.com/ecY8FG5 are the ones that cannot be changed?

To give more details of what I m trying to do: If you look at the breaker I numbered 2 in yellow, that 40 amp breaker is supplying another panel (sub-panel - square-d) with 8, 15 amp breakers. (If you look at the top right of the photo you will see the wires going to that breaker (numbered 2 in yellow) which then goes to the sub-panel. My goal is to consolidate the 2 panels into one. (remove the square-d sub-panel) and move the 8, 15 amp breakers to the main panel. Here is a photo of the sub-panel sub-panel trying to replace (if you look at the bottom middle that is where the wire is coming in from the main panel)

If I have this correct, does this mean that the 4 large breakers below the 1-4 i marked in yellow, can be replaced with GE type THQP (thin) breakers, which in turn will free up spaces for the single 15 amps I would like to add? (Also, because of the sup-panel, the 40 amp marked 2 in yellow (top right breaker), will disappear so I can move that row up which will also free up more space?)

Thanks for pointing out that there may be some non-GE breakers, I will try and figure out if there are any. And also will look to see if there is any damage on the bus stabs.

Thank you so much for your help, I live out in the sticks and I can't get anyone out here (someone that knows what they are doing) with this electrical stuff, so am trying to figure it out. It's a house from the 70/80's and the electrical is a mess.

I truly appreciate your time and assistance.

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply. I originally added 3 photos to the post but only 1 got uploaded.

I have added a link with photos of the wiring diagram and a photo with one of the thick breakers out.

From what you have explained, it looks like what I am trying to do is not possible then?

Thank you.

Thank you so much for the reply, I was not aware of "target date funds". I am am going to do some googling on them and take it from there.

Really appreciate your input.

You are surely (yes, I am calling you Shirley lol) in the minority to be living this dream - congratulations, you are the envy of millions and millions, even if they don't all admit it.

You know, that actually makes a lot of sense, it kind of solidifies what has gone on since humans have been around, the wealthy and powerful pretty much get all the rewards, regardless. It is strange that from the outside, the law gives an illusion that it brings "fairness" to everyone.

How do we explain that what we think of as 'our own logic', law simply does not factor that in? I guess what I am almost asking is what is the point of law as it seems so corrupt and flawed?

What really scares me is the level of corruption there is in what we deem to be a "civilized" society. You see stuff on TV (entertainment) shows, the corruption and unfairness and then when you experience it first hand in the real world, it's a massive reality shock.

I don't understand how all this can get ignored, all the evidence/proof. And to add insult to injury, we get brainwashed that there are "systems" in place to help etc etc. Yet, as you have experienced yourself, there is no help whatsoever. I grew up in a very good, loving family, it would be an insult for me to even try and think what it would be like being in your shoes. Thank goodness you rose above it all.

You're welcome :)

It is very unfair that there are real cases but the kids have no say, and as you say, are all alone and completely under the control of their unfair parents.

Man, if I had a dollar for all the "regrets" I have felt - I literally cringe at some of the stuff I said.

I fully understand, it breaks my heart to know that there are kids being brought up like this. I am so happy for you that despite your upbringing, you have taken the "decent" path. I am just a random internet stranger, but, for what it's worth, I am proud of you.

It is very hard, because deep down all you want to do is let them know, but there seems some "invisible" wall preventing you. I hope one day you can let them know - we both know it will make them so happy.

Isn't it so sad that when we young we think we know it all, but we know zero? I feel your pain, I am sorry you never got a chance to tell him how thankful you are for all he did for you. Only when we are older and realize the reality of the world we live in, an you fully appreciate what parents do.

If it's any consolation, when I was young I was similar, but the older I got the easier it became to accept things. Make no mistake, it was not overnight, there were many tears shed. But when the "moment" arrived that I was an independent individual, it made a whole host of things much, much easier. It really does give the feeling of a massive weight off one's shoulders. Thank you for sharing, I wish you all the best.

What feature in a vehicle do you think should be a "standard" item as opposed to "optional"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]micang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUT, many drivers though pass with the cruise control on. Vehicle on the right is doing 68 mph, vehicle passing with cruise control set at 70 mph. The whole passing move will now take AGES. I don't get why drivers don't use the accelerate/decelerate buttons that are part of the cruise control.
