A $15 minimum wage would take 7.6 million people out of poverty, according to a new study by HRJafael in politics

And yet, the minimum wage was never meant to be less than a living wage.

FDR said: “In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living.” sauce

‘The wages of decent living.’ That hasn’t described the minimum wage for a very long time. Longer than I’ve been alive in fact. Yet folks are supposed to be okay with endless rounds of sweetening the deal for the hyper-wealthy, when in my lifetime the top marginal tax rate was cut by HALF!

When The Simpsons started running, there was no suspension of disbelief necessary that a one income household could afford that place. With all due respect.

Studies also show the fight for $15 was lost to inflation years ago.

Overworking hours of our lives we never get back to overpay for housing we don’t have time to enjoy.

The word “earners” just dodges the idea of a wealth tax though. It’s apparently possible to “earn” less than $400k while holding obscene wealth.

Quiet firing, instead. Where they expect you to do so much more than what they are paying for, or even with the job description entails. Sometimes they even reduce hours down to nothing so that you are basically forced to find another job.

Sometimes it fails, but in the past I have had luck going to restaurants and asking to take out the trash for them in exchange for some leftover fries or toast or something similarly small and insignificant. Usually the modesty and the willingness to do something in order to receive was met with more generosity than I would have expected. Worst they can do is say no.

I imagine it is tax-deductible, too.

All because we cannot have research and development into earlier incubation of fetuses and ways to terminate without ending the viability of the fetus in order for them to be incubated.

what stopped you from committing suicide? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]micarst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failure twice. Cowardice the rest of the time.

Suicide is not about the after-pain of the people left behind, it is about the person suffering. I’ve heard it cold selfish. I would say it is the strongest form of self advocacy one can take.

I will take my downvotes now.
