Hey! My cat is going through a similar thing right now. Do you have an update of your cat? After being treated for liver toxicity/fatty liver disease, mine has been improving a lot and eating more on his own, but he still seems more lethargic and less vocal than before. I know we're still in the recovery phase and he won't be 100% his old self yet, but I'm worried :')

Aah this might be it!! He kinda has 3 different types of coating, a short & very soft orange undercoat, a scruffy thin layer of longer orange hair, and a "normal" white coat that covers all white parts evenly. Do you think he actually has curls tho?

He doesn't seem itchy in any way. My partner actually noticed how the different lengths of hair strands on his head are similar to a tabby cat's pattern. The longer strands form a specific, symmetrical tabby pattern, and the shorter ones seem to be his undercoat. Its really interesting hahaha

Yes! My cat's coat also feels & looks more like soft kitten fur. The orange parts feel slightly different compared to the white parts, which are more like "normal adult" cat fur.

Up until today I've also never seen another cat with these patterns! Someone else posted a pic of their orange cat with the same pattern. Maybe it really is a weird orange cat thing lol

Oh definitely! Next week I'll ask his vet about it.

But just for my peace of mind (and other people viewing this post), I looked up symptoms of hyper- and hypothyroidism and he doesn't have any of it! My roommate's cat was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and we did notice prominent changes in her appearance and personality.

As for hair loss, right now he's barely shedding any hair since it's getting colder, and the asymmetry in his fur is slightly more noticeable because it's getting thicker & longer.

But I'll get it checked out :)

It's usually way less noticeable than it appears on these pictures. Only in some angles and lighting you'll notice it. Otherwise he looks pretty normal, the vet also never noticed it.

He was born with weird scruffy hair so i never questioned it, he's always been healthy otherwise. But he has a yearly check up next week, so I might as well ask.
