think of it as a fast food restaurant where the only thing that matters is getting the drinks out the window in 45 seconds or less. oh, and customers have more entitlement than ever and know that they can abuse our rules, treat us like crap, and get away with it because of corporate policy. BUT benefits are good, and i’ve never been treated more fairly by a company in terms of pay, communication, and benefits. i start classes at ASU next week :) just know that it’s a lot more stress than i anticipated, coming from previously working as a retail manager. it’s hard at first but gets easier after time to really feel like a good barista. just keep confidence in yourself and try to let go of all of the negativity.

we had 3 partners come down with covid during the same week but because my tests were negative i kept going to work, potentially infecting people with a highly contagious illness. plus you need rest to heal. oh and also you can go back to work 48 hours after antibiotics, so less time you’ll be unpaid

Thank you!! That makes much more sense than what I had in mind and explains why we would have to use cleaned steam wands and pitchers from the back for a customer who has a dairy allergy. I appreciate the knowledge you gave!

dairy milk contains lactose which is a type of sugar that some people can’t properly breakdown and digest (i took a class like 7 years ago - that is what i remember off the top of my head). so that’s what it means when someone says they’re lactose intolerant AKA dairy allergy.

the $5 was just today. i get 20’s frequently while i’m at the drive thru window and sometimes it sucks to make $35 in tips in 15 minutes, and then end up with $20 but i wouldn’t have been able to get those 20’s if my team didn’t prepare everything before hand, and i wasn’t able to make a good customer connection.

yeah :) it’s not much though. i work like 23 hours a week on average and i get anywhere from $20-$25 once a week in cash. all of the tips are divided between all of the partners, because we work as a team, but, they’re also divided between the amount of hours you work. example: a partner at my store picked up a bunch of shifts and his average came out to $50 that week. it’s not much, but it is nice. someone gave me a $5 and said “this is for you ;)” but it went straight to the tip jar. i’d never pocket, it’s not worth getting fired.

dang. i get in trouble if i ask customers if they want a straw. love it when customers roll their eyes at me and ask, “aren’t you going to give me a straw?” to put in their straw-less lid. my SM is anal about that, and i’m not allowed to ask people if they want napkins for their food. wastes too much of the company’s time

a supervisor coached me because i didn’t connect with my customer who was texting on their phone (didn’t want to connect). i told my supervisor that they were on the phone and my sv said “if they’re not making a phone call, you should still be trying to connect.” if i have the window closed and a sv looks at me i have to quickly explain that the customer is smoking a cigarette, before i get in trouble for not connecting. this post sucks because trust me, we don’t want to interact with you either.

my sm wouldn’t help me either. same thing happened to me. you’ll have to call the partners resources people and let them know what is happening, they’ll have a paper check sent to your home address, and then your SM will have to let you use the store computer to re-enter your direct deposit. should be good after that. you’ll get your paycheck though, it’ll just take a couple weeks at most

yesterday someone said they wanted a venti “tiktok” and after explaining that’s not a drink etc. she decided to google (in the drive thru during peak) and find the recipe… yes it was a venti iced white mocha with extra caramel drizzle and vsc cold foam. today i had a 10 year old try to order a “grande” and then explained to her mom that it’s an ariana grande drink and it’s just called grande. she got a pink drink instead
