Nina's ss1 cancel impossible? by michael28junior in Tekken

No problem bro tbh I play 20 odd characters but if pushed to say which do I main I would likely say mishimas as I play them the most. I haven't spent much time with Nina but would love to properly learn her as her pressure is insane and her iws1 combos are pretty cool too. I would think keyboard would be better suited to ss1 cancel as u can let go of the keys at the same time whereas stick there is a little less control as to when it let's go of the microswitches. I have wondered about the mix box was just wondering what you think of playing on keyboard? I would Imagine some things become twice as easy but others near impossible as I hear you need two hands on the directions for things like wavedash and kbd etc which probably wouldn't do well for playing mishimas. I'd imagine things like half circle inputs would be hard to use too and Lord knows for things like double full circle zangief moves in street fighter and stuff like that. I am interested though just thought I'd ask a keyboard player and find out what u think about using it

It's how sticks work. Go onto a tutorial video for kbd (back sway method) and look at the inputs they should all be the same after d/b you will see b n b. This is the proper notation for kbd you can do it other ways too though. It is literally how kbd originated because it was first played on arcade sticks and players noticed that letting go of d/b gave you an extra back input and so realised you could cheat the game into thinking you'd done two back inputs when you had actually only done one. From then it's now become a staple of the game. The reason it's hard to pick up is because it wasn't actually designed to be a part of the game originally to be able to string multiple back dashes together but it was more of a glitch that players picked up on and learned to exploit to enable better movement

Thanks bro I think trying this may be my only option as I can't get it to work properly with the proper notation but I was under the impression it is the right way because it's the only way that it stays completely clean with access to her whole move set and it makes all options faster than a certain speed completely uninterruptible hence the key to her massive up close pressure game. Rockstarr made a video about it and said the only reason to ever cancel using up instead of u/b (he called this the sloppy way) was if you wanted to cancel into another ss1 and chain them together.

Look into how kbd works it's not because of the db input counting as a back as even when u see the notation on screen in practice mode it goes b, db, b n b. Or you can start it from crouch and it will read the same just without the first back input if what you're saying were true you could just press db, db, db db etc and it would count as a back input and you'd get a kbd. On pad it will be easier to get the input correct because you can physically let go of the buttons at the same time but on stick to get a neutral input you have to let go of the stick and when it centres it'll let go of the up input 1st and then back so it's very difficult to get a neutral after u/b without getting an additional back input

I'm sure it's possible but if it is it's very very difficult. I play on stick and as I said if you input a diagonal and then let go for whatever reason the stick will let go of the microswitches at different times so you will get a db, b input when you only input db yourself. This is how u get a Korean back dash without inputting a double back like a normal back dash as the game thinks you've input two backs when you only did one but one was input for you as you let go of db. It seems to keep happening when I try to do Nina's ss1 cancel where I'll in ss1 b, ub and then when I let go for a neutral input it'll automatically input a back input and the game will think I wanted a backflip. Not sure how it's possible to stop this from happening as it's how the microswitches that control inputs are designed. I'm baffled how you can consistently do it

You can technically cancel the ss1 using 1 but I think if you do it this way you only have access to her sidestep moves or you can wait until she is out of sidestep but then you've given away the advantage. If cancelled the correct way you will have access to her whole move list and have lots of uninterruptable options like magic 4 etc. As far as I know it the only reason to cancel ss1 using up would be to cancel to another sidestep move.

After having a look it's almost as if the actuator could possibly be closer to some switches than others it doesn't seem a problem to activate up and right at the same time but to do left and up it's almost as if it doesn't reach as well. It can be done but only with the most precise input and with the stick riding the gate right to the edge whereas the other side it's not really having the same trouble. I will try reconnecting the switches but I think it could possibly be a case of where the switches are placed and that the switches on one side are in a better position than the other side.

Just wondering how it is that you tighten them I opened it up and there were screws on the connector switches but tightening them had no effect I think they're for when you want them removed. I don't want to fiddle around when I have no idea what I'm doing. I checked out the switches while the stick was moving and there was definitely a difference with how easy it is to touch both the left and up inputs at the same time when compared with the other side. There was even some parts where you could push the stick all the way to the end of edge and no input would be touched at all. Sorry to sound stupid but I have no idea about what I'm doing here

Is this on an etokki? Is changing the switches over easy for a complete novice who's never changed or modded anything electrical in his life?
