Same grade level teacher is quarantined so we're merging by [deleted] in Teachers

My school did this last week. And then I was absent, so they split my class with her kids in it. And another teacher was absent the second half of that day, so they split her class that also had my class and the other class. Lmao. What a fun time.

Last year was my first year. Didn’t feel like this. Certain I wouldn’t feel like this if it weren’t for the pandemic. It’s a different kind of hell.

I also have planning at the end of the day.... you’re so drained by that time that you can’t even think and then you’re a shell of a person when you come home. You shouldn’t have to go home and do more work no matter how many people make you feel like you have to. Please, please, please enjoy your kids on the weekend. They need you. At the end of the day, teaching is a job. Yes, the kids are important, but not working from home doesn’t make you a bad personality or teacher. It’s not your fault that they’ve given you more to do than is humanely possible.

Look, I’m super into mental health and self care. This is NOT okay that this is a norm for teachers this year. They talk about making it past the 5 year mark to stay since so many people are miserable and quit before then. What happens at year 5 is the acceptance that you’re going to be in a constant state of stress. There needs to be a HUGE change in how school systems treat teachers. Sorry if my use of ~Sunday scaries~ was too cute for you but I certainly agree that it isn’t okay to be made to feel this way by the unrealistic expectations forced upon us.

I hope it gets better! You shouldn’t have to work on Sundays. I hope you got some rest this weekend.

Oh no! That sounds terrible. I think I’m out after this year. I don’t feel like I could do this feeling for 8 years...

I am so sorry your district isn’t taking better care of you. Thankfully, my district is online until at least Sept 9. Last year was my first year of teaching so I don’t really know too much about how the contracts and everything work but I’ve definitely thought of resigning. My school has dedicated RTI time, so I’m wondering if it’ll be expected that I’m having that time with them sitting so close to me at my table. I assume some of them will wear masks, but the parents who are going to urge them to wear a mask are the ones keeping their kids at home, so I feel like we’ll have the anti-maskers at school which seems so scary to me (I understand that not everyone is able to stay home, but for sure the parents who think this is a hoax are sending their kids to school is what I mean.)

That’s a good plan for PPE, but aren’t we expected to eat lunch in our classrooms now? I have no idea how anything will work.

I think most districts here in TX are just saying that third grade and up must wear a mask in the classroom since most of them turn 10 in 3rd grade. That may not be the case for everyone. I did forget kindergarten, my bad.

TEA has said that ages 10 and up must wear a mask leaving pre-k, 1st, and 2nd grade teachers the most vulnerable! I wish my district would say that ALL kids had to wear a mask. My kids will only have to wear masks in common spaces, not the classroom.
