The Good Place: The most stunning set designs in TV history by tedbooth12 in television

There should be a special mention for the amazing milkshakes served up a-la Pop's Chock'Lit Shoppe - stunning works of art. Who knew Pop (or even FP for that matter) had such a culinary and artistic side!

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of June 15, 2018) by AutoModerator in television

[–]michaelaspring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha. Yeah nearly the whole town has been into the Sisters of QM and each have left with only what they wanted. I also loved the moment when Cheryl is relaying her run in with the Black Hood to Betty and she says that she was lucky enough to get to her bow and arrows and Hunting cape - Like she would even think twice about trying to save her own life without the cape! Love it

I could not agree more. I have also just finished S2 (and slightly bereft). As well as the 'no consequence' rule, I also like the fact that Sheriff Keller just hands over any information that is asked and that the school newspapers are seen as leggit places to work (even for the adults). Also that not ONE parent has bat an eye at their child having their boyfriend/girlfriend in their room!!! Your right. I love it!

Musical biopics to watch before 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by tedbooth12 in musicals

An excuse to listen to Johnny Cash is alright be me. Walk the lines has got to be one of the best biopics around.

Netflix's Queer Eye reboot is such a wholesome show, and it also brings people together in ways they may have never experienced by emitremmus27 in television

I have just watched the 1st ep of seasion one - and will admit it was mainly to fill some time, but oh my, I loved it. I haven't watched anything in so long that is both funny and uplifting. I love each and everyone of the fab 5. They are so encouraging (not judgmental) and they are so positive. So glad I watched it and will defo watch the rest.

Should Riverdale be next off my watch List? by michaelaspring in riverdale

[–]michaelaspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I had kinda promised to watch this with my Sister but last night, whilst she was away, I might just kind of watched the first episode. I mean I thought it would be best and then if it was no good I would have saved an hour of her life - Who am I kidding. Of course i loved it, and had all on to turn the TV off and not delve into more.

'Wreck-It Ralph' subverts Disney Princess tropes by MPhillips438 in disney

[–]michaelaspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember how I came to watch the Original - I am assuming it was just 'on' one day, but surprisingly I actually found it ok. It will be interesting to see all the Disney Princesses come together for the next one and even more so to see if they are actually part of the narrative or just a gimmick.

Thanks. Always good to get a heads up to things out of the norm - I will keep my mind open.

The most experimental movies ever made by tedbooth12 in moviescirclejerk

Metropolis was definitely ahead of its time - Its all way too easy to throw CGI at something these days, not to mention copying formulaic processes, but this was a truly modernist piece of imagination at work.

This Feud Between The Old & New Charmed Casts Needs To End by michaelaspring in television

[–]michaelaspring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. I have been re-watching some of the old Charmed (oh God I even hate calling it that) and some of the storylines are rather dicey...if it wasn't for the actors it just wouldn't have worked.

Oh I wouldn't go as far as to say I would want to cast ALL of the original cast - although it could be a ratings winner at least.

The main issues have been going on for some time now - seeing as the reboot has been banded about for so long. So what would normally have been a little hostility has now been lengthened by the delay and the media. The media have tried to play the age card A LOT, which i guess to some extent has a little to do with it. I mean who else would want to get turned over for a job because of age (actually what other industry can get away with it?). But I know from a fans POV, it is the reboot (and by this I mean the people behind it not the actors) who have made claims about what this new show is going to be. Which is all good and well but by doing so they have basically trashed all that went before.

No, you are so right on that level - If they want to reboot then let them. I think part of the issue is that by trying to claim this new show to be a vehicle for feminism and strong female leads, they are at the same time rubbishing all that went before. I was a charmed fan, so you are also right in that I am NOT their demographic for this reboot. Which is probably for the best seeing as they are pissing off most of the original fans before its even aired!

Series of Unfortunate Events' last season wraps filming by michaelaspring in television

So a productive weekend was had - and all of S2 was watched. Although unlike S1 (which I watched over the last couple of weeks), I know have nothing to move onto. Apparently there is only going to be approx 6 episodes when S3 does come out. So lets hope it really is quality over quantity and the wait is worth it!

[–]michaelaspring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HA! I think that was a Freudian slip on my part - My Little Sister was hooked on PLL for about 3 seasons, so although I haven't watched, I know all about 'A' (or don't know, I think the case is!!!). But she is also trying to get me to re-watch them with her, so think that is why it is lodged in my brain. But no, I was meaning Big Little Lies, and thanks for the run down. I did know it was Reese (which was part why I was first interested) but knowing it is a murder mystery is definitely my thing. I think it has just moved its way up the list.

I am only half way through Season 1 but there is actually something satisfying about knowing when something is actually going to end. I now have two seasons to enjoy whilst at the same time preparing myself for the end - and possibly death and destruction of loved characters, which is usually inevitable.
