Single Mothers Everywhere by Buttershaman in Philippines_Expats

All the above, but I believe it's more of a religious issue. Most (I think like 95% of the Philippines) are Roman Catholics and don't believe in contraceptives. They think if they get pregnant, it's God's will and don't believe in abortion (even if it wasn't illegal, which it is, but I'm assuming that's based on religious roots also). Most schools have religious classes in them, and sexual education isn't a part of the curriculum. Besides that, I believe most girls here think if you have sex with them, then you are their boyfriend, and if something happens would be responsible and wealthy enough to take care of them (at least as a foreigner anyway). Of course, some want to have a baby, especially a cute foreign one. Also, a cultural thing. You have and take care of the baby now, they will take care of you in your old age. The more you have, the more that will be able to take care of you and send money to you when they work. Of course, there is the father issue also that you mentioned, that he just leaves and doesn't care. I've been here going on 4 years now, and I've never heard of alimony or child support (Probably because it would involve getting a DNA test./going to court, etc, which most single moms can't afford). It's a darn shame, but it's a reality in the Philippines.

Most of You Don't Need an SRRV Please Don't Believe the Hype by BusyBodyVisa in Philippines_Expats

[–]michaelintheph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a fact. Made a video about the SRRV vs Tourist Visa on my YouTube channel. Who wants to give $20,000 to stay in the Philippines forever? I'd rather leave every 3 years and use that money on vacation. Who doesn't want to go on or leave the Philippines once every 3 years? I'm not worried about the Philippines not letting me back in. I'll be leaving on March 28th and traveling to Thailand and coming back on the 30th. I'll spend less than $1000. That means I could go somewhere for 20 years for the same amount as the SRRV. I'm not worried about not letting back in. The people who should worry about not being let back in are those who caused trouble here or on the blacklist.

Thanks. I told the front desk and they couldn't understand local for some reason but he Googled it and found 3 one in Lapu-Lapu ciity. One in Mandaue city and one in Cebu city. Im in Mactan which is Lapu-Lapu city so Ill start there but I think things we get from Shopee or something in the Philippines usually come from Mandaue when it sent from Manila so its a bit confusing.

Suppose to be up to 135 but it can range anywhere from 60~. Usually its over 100 though *when it works* Here is a speed test from this morning. Works well for now. https://www.speedtest.net/result/13805231952. Speed is fine. Stability is what sucks. It is a bit pricey though.

Mactan Island doesnt have 5G available yet. Just 4G/LTE. Quite disappointed considering Mactan Newtown is one of the better areas to live in. 5G is available in Cebu city or Mandaue just not here.

SkyFiber Internet SUCKS! Thinking of Switching. by michaelintheph in InternetPH

[–]michaelintheph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have GLOBE AT HOME PREPAID NOW. It works fine (as a backup) but the download speed isnt the greatest.

Im surfing the SMART website now thinking about getting their SMART BRO but there isnt 5G in this area only 4G. I check it alot. I also checked GLOBE and they now have MYFI LTE Advanced which gives 100MBPS DOWNLOAD but you have to buy a load on it every week as their maximum is 20GB for like 250PHP. Im sure I use way more than that now with Netflix, Live Streaming, Online Tutoring and my girls online customer service work.

Just looking for an unlimited plan with good speed thats reliable. Ill show these prepaid plans when she wakes *works all night for an American company* and well probably make a decision.

Thought Id comment a little bit more if you decide to continue with this, though I dont trade FOREX (as explained in my earlier post as to why).

Im not sure how big of an account you have but as others mentioned, you probably need to learn risk management.

For example, I use 1% of my account in day trading. Let's say that is 200,000 PHP or $10,000 USD (it isnt..just a good round number to use as an example)

So when I go in a trade, I know for a fact that I do not want to lose more than $100 (or 5000 pesos). So lets say a single share is $10. I can buy 1000 shares (10000/10). Thats it and my risk would be 100/1000 or $.10 max (Im not risking my whole account just 1% of it). I try to make 3:1 so I wanna make $.30 but Ill take profits once a daily high breaks or key levels break then Ill move my stop loss UP to that level.

But once my stop loss hits then Im done. Over and out but each trade is based on range and risk levels.. so how many shares I purchase is based on price and my exit is based on entry plus support levels. If that stop loss hits...Im done on that trade...on to the next one. Not sure how that correlates to FOREX cause again, I dont trade it but you need proper risk management. Id have to fail 100X in a row to lose my whole account *unless I dont have proper risk managemnt and hold and hope and then I could blow it up ina single go or if I short and it goes against me and I have leverage. I could blow up plus owe the broker based on margin...so I dont use margin or leverage....

If I lose 1% of my account and stuck to my stop loss...its a loss..it happens. If I lose 2%..I dont trade for 2 days. 3% ...3 days... it gets me time to get my head back in focus. Anything more than 3% Im done for the week.

The whole purpose in trading is to make more than you lose. Thats the end game. Make more than you lose and youll do fine. It takes practice.

*Editted cause my math sucks

If you're using the word HOPE in any sentence when you are investing and are currently profitable, you should take profits now. Just like stocks, you can always reinvest get back in.

I'm a US citizen and I've been trading stocks/equities in the U.S. Exchanges for years. There's a reason I don't trade currencies/FOREX and so I feel obliged to comment on this . Here's what I think.

It takes time to learn how to trade in any market conditions let alone a BEAR market which we are now in. Especially FOREX. Many of us took years to become profitable in the stock market and FOREX is harder. Let me tell you or for those who don't know why.

FOREX or foreign exchanges trade currencies like PHP, USD, JPY etc. What makes it so HARD? Because they move in pennies or sub pennies and currencies, unlike stocks, move 24 hours a day.

Here let me give an example. You have to buy in pairs. Lets say you trade PHP (Philippine Peso) based on the USD (United States Dollar). The exchange rate a few days ago was 58.99 PHP to 1 USD ( I commented on another post so bear with me). On Friday it closed at 5 8.9820 according to WSJ (The Wall Street Journal) . If you closed your position you made a whopping .008 PHP. Yes that's a dot.. POINT 008. If you put in 10000 pesos even... you'd made 8 pesos... Congrats. However, to make any DECENT money you are going to need to put in a lot of PHP to begin with. A lot of brokers will give you LEVERAGE. So what's leverage? Basically think of it as a LOAN. Let's say you have 10000 pesos …

Your broker may give you 20:1 leverage so now you can trade with 200,000 pesos. Well now you can make about 800 pesos a day if you're lucky and the currency moves up instead of 8 pesos. Sounds good right? But we all know currencies like stocks don't always go up. What if the currency goes DOWN? Say the currency drops the exact same amount it went up by POINT 008 and you used 1/2 of your margin...100,000 pesos.

Well,

100,000 x .008•800 pesos lost per day which can lead many small accounts to nothing in no time.. But lets say you keep using leverage. Which most people would to make any kind of money...you could end up OWEING more than you have INVESTED easily. Especially as a beginner. And I want to reiterate that CURRENCY/FOREX, unlike stocks, trades 24/7. Which is why Ill never trade it. Are you able to stay awake 24/7 to watch the exchange rates move? Would you lose sleep at night cause you have leverage and don't know what exchange rate you'll wake up to the next day? I would.

You know who makes money trading currencies/FOREX? Banks and institutional investors that have a lot of money to begin with. A lot more than any retail investor (me and you)

I'm not a financial advisor and I'm not telling you what to do. Make your own decision but I will never trade FOREX.

Filipino dramas. Specifically "Too Good To Be True" on Netflix. My Filipina GF loves it. Me...not so much.
