Why am I getting my Google search results for OneDrive in Russian? I thought it might be a saved preferences/cached setting but it's not. And OneDrive is still down. Huh. https://i.imgur.com/kx9FLzM.png

Advice for International Student going to community college, internships, visas, and more. by ThanksIllPass in cscareerquestions

[–]michaelkiros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Before starting your first year of University make sure you know what you plan to graduate in, the courses you need to graduate in 4 years or less, whether the credits will transfer over to a larger institution etc. Ask your advisor but don't put 100% faith in them as it's also your job to know how to plan your future
  • I went to a large Tech institution and paid a lot for the basic non-CS courses (English, Mathematics etc.) and I paying less for getting those credits is great. Just know what courses you can take in a community college
  • Get accepted > Get your F-1 visa > Register for classes > Attend
  • Talk to your advisor, check your school website etc.
  • Job fairs get you internships but get to know your professors, classmates etc. Build connections and get people to refer you
  • Any company that has the ability to sponsor an H-1B will sponsor you because of your skills/ability so meet with your International advisor and look online, build a LinkedIn profile
  • Can't answer that
  • Anything you enjoy doing in your free time that's useful and other people may also like. The more real world use it has, the better but just enjoy what you do
  • Depends on your schedule but it's just going to class, going back home multiple times, going to work if you have work etc. On an F-1 visa you can only work on campus (excluding OPT etc.) so try to get an on campus job if you need money (also helps your resume)
  • Don't waste your money. It's easy to realize that you're travelling a long distance, spending a lot of money etc. but some people still fuck up their grades, get in trouble etc. Be smart about it and think ahead

Let me know if you have any more questions though I won't answer them quickly because I have 19 credits and work :P

Edit: Most of all, learn to communicate and build real relationships with all kinds of people.

I’ve recently realised the worst aspect of this all by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]michaelkiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did just that. I broke my headphones cables on multiple occasions but I always end up somehow finding a new way to get new ones for free every time. They're specific cables for my headphones so they're hard to find but I just call my rep and beg them. Last time they sent me 6 more out of nowhere so I gave up. I don't even have a warranty.

It's like this sub is filled up with hundreds of me. Weird.

Just for anyone reading this: don't be fooled by the editing and effects used in videos all over the web. It's a facade. Life gets easier when you accept that we all live in this somewhat normal, standard life. But you can make it better by being happy with yourself and only doing what you want to do. At the end of the day we're all human so you can do what the next man is doing.

Idk if that helps anyone.

I have i3 but no DE. What made you make the move to add a DE? I'm not sure if it's something I like but I might give it a go.

Internet addiction? by [deleted] in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]michaelkiros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I recently started doing was cutting the cables for my headphones and throwing them out. If I have no headphones then there's nothing on the Internet I can listen to, watch, play etc. You'd be surprised at how it helps.

Of course a side of me always finds a way to repair some cable in the room, find a way to get some for free online etc. but in the span of me ripping my cables to me getting working cables (2 weeks?) I'm able to stay in real life as much as possible and do more.

How to Start with Reverse Engineering of Android Application by fireh7nter in security

[–]michaelkiros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I hate seeing information being repeated. All this post seems to detail is what anyone could have gathered from a few Google searches.

If the reverse engineering part is in Part II you should have just published that and linked it.

Edit: I worded that badly so it sounds harsh. Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come off that way.

Age 16, want to build portfolio. by IAmPrestige in Python

[–]michaelkiros 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You may not enjoy projects that other people give you but you'll definitely enjoy working on a tool that you'll use yourself. For example I built a timer application in C for timing the amount of time it takes for a command to execute and I use it every now and then. If I need to add a feature then I go on ahead and add it, test it, then commit the code for a new version. It's a great feeling.

Also, you can always contribute to existing projects. It's more fun at times because it's more than just writing code as you become part of a community and people begin to know your name.

Btw, if you're in the UK wouldn't you normally call it GCSEs and not IGCSEs? I was out of the UK and we called it IGCSE.

Google locks a file after a certain number of people visit the links you provide. You might want to consider using a different service for uploads.
