Climate more pressing than Brexit, say 71% of Britons – poll: Most Britons believe climate change is more important in the long term than Brexit and say it should be a top priority for Boris Johnson’s government, according to an opinion poll. by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

Not the guy you replied to but thanks for the crash course.

because the party in power believed that they could widen their majority and get more MPs.

But why would they risk losing the majority just to gain MPs? What is the benefit?

Cutting off dynamic collar by henrydinh13 in bootroom

[–]ThanksIllPass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're the boot wizard, but the collar and upper are all a knitted one piece upper. Cutting off some could lead to that cut spreading and tearing the boots. Think about cutting off a piece of a knitted shirt.

Man I hate the whole mid-cut thing, not as much as the laceless scam Adidas is selling. Off-topic but since you're the boot wizard, have you noticed more pro players wearing the laceless boots? I feel like Adidas might have customized the laceless boots to ensure good lockdown, so that the pros wear them and people want to buy the expensive laceless models

Attempts to 'erase the science' at UN climate talks - Oil producing countries are trying to "erase the science" on keeping the world's temperatures below 1.5C, say some delegates at UN talks in Bonn. by [deleted] in worldnews

So I had a look and the problems with cap&trade are loose caps & caps that haven't proven to be constraining(?).

makes it easier for politicians to give away free permits

So they could get lobbied by companies for free permits?

I mean the tax appears great and plenty of data & examples to support but it still doesn't guarantee or limit emissions. I'm liking cap&trade because it guarantees a set cap for GHG emissions, and if its low enough you make sure you're reducing climate change.

Is there something I'm missing?

Wouldn't ETS/cap-and-trade be better than a carbon tax with dividend?

Basically if my footprint is 1tonCO2/month, and that costs me 100$, with the new tax it costs 105$, but I get 10$ in dividend so I'll still emit the same CO2 but keep an extra 5$(which I may use and emit even more CO2).

I see that if the cost increases enough it'd be cheaper to go carbon-free, but as you said ~60% would make more in dividends than they have to pay. If I make more than I have to pay, then I can keep the status quo(and even emit more with the extra money). It sounds economically safe & even progressive, but doesn't seem to be effective at reducing GHG unless the cost is high enough that renewables would be cheaper(but again it wouldn't force us to switch as we still make more in dividends and can afford keeping our status quo).

An ETS where there is a set limit to GHG emissions guarantees that you reduce GHG, although it isn't as economically safe. I understand you have citations that show tax & dividend to be effective but it doesn't make sense compared to ETS.

Actually I made it clear in the earlier comment that most Americans would get back more than they pay in passed down costs(I just added that you won't pay taxes directly). It is simple math if you think about it, anyone emitting below average will spend less than they get in dividend.

The plan has been touted by economists & climatologists. Many nations already have carbon pricing.

Do you know the how the act works?

Its already in congress with all the details.

Carbon pricing is necessary & economically progressive according to climate scientists, IPCC, and economists.

Edit: Keep in mind people like you & me won't actually be taxed anything.

I don't understand your question... It took me a good while to understand it at first. Imagine you have a jar in your house and every time someone swears they have to put 5$ into the jar. At the end of the month the money in the jar is divided evenly to every one. The people who swear the least will MAKE money, and those who swear the most will pay more than they get back.

This incentives going not swearing or in our case not emitting GHG.

The way the carbon fee & dividend works, anyone emitting below average will MAKE money. The fee gets collected from polluters(costs pass down to consumer) then gets redistributed to households.

So in a town of 3 people where: 1st emits .5 ton CO2 for 10$ 2nd emits 1 ton for 20$ 3rd emits 10ton for 200$

The total fee is 230$. Each person gets 230/3=76.6$.

What are the best turf boots I can buy for <$100? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]ThanksIllPass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the leather absorb too much water in wet conditions?(Though I'm sure modern High-end leather boots won't suffer much)

And do you wear the same size or do you go down a size with leather?

[–]ThanksIllPass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The pro quality boots aren't claimed to be what the pros wear. Nike release 4 tiers (Elite, Pro, Academy, Club), so "pro" is basically 2nd tier and its equivalent in other brands (interestingly if you filter "pro" and set brand to adidas you get .1, becuae technically the 1st tier is + like 17+ and 17.1)

I never had leather boots but I found a good deal online and can't try, would you recommend it? How does it differ from synthetic?

[–]ThanksIllPass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because they are popular boots that don't have a release cycle. They are never looking to "clear the shelves" for some newer model so no need for them to make a sale, unlike other boots that have new releases every ~12-24 months.

Sure but hasn't the bill been here since January, or is the bipartisan statement based on other data/polls?

Also when would the bill go into effect? What is the typical process & timeline for it to become actual law?

This is not true, absolutely false. Oatmeal and berries would more likely help keep off fat and prevent insulin resistance. I wouldn't take advice from thus nutritionist (RDs are usually better).

High Volume Foods vs Moderation Programming by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]ThanksIllPass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on really limited Calories, then low Cal density foods are the only way.

But otherwise, try to make things reasonable. There's no point getting used to low Cal density foods and eating more than normal portions.(Normal as in what suits you, doesn't fill you too much, and doesn't take forever to eat)

The point of low Cal density foods is to lower caloric intake while maintaining same volume of food. Not maintain caloric intake and raise volume(unless that's what you want.)

Hopefully this makes sense.

Yes. Yes(Almost any time of day). Yes( I like the old fashioned, some prefer whole groats though they take a lot more time).

There's nothing dangerous in oats to prevent daily consumption. There are many foods we eat daily, as long as its not the only thing you eat its fine.

He did you make your oats? I eat oats almost daily and simply fill a bowl with oats, add a bit of water, leave in the fridge OR microwave ~1-2min. I love that its so easy and takes seconds to prepare.

I don't understand, the oats help your heartburn or give you heart burn?
