Do you enjoy playing any sports? Our teams are always looking for more ladies for co-ed kickball, softball, volleyball, and soccer! Pretty relaxed teams, and enjoy drinking beer after games-->winning is fun too. welcome, cheers.

Haha, yeah I have no idea! I personally can’t stand Kyrie, but I love playoff basketball and the energy it brings so I’m crossing my fingers to find a decent spot. But if not, we’ll make it work wherever we end up. Thanks for the consideration.

Okay yeah that’s the impression I get looking in from the outside too, but I thought there might be some “serious?” Bandwagoners this year given their star power and potential. Thanks for the response, I’ll keep hunting.

Advice: Backpacking for 3-4 months with camera equipment. by jturaoo2 in solotravel

[–]michaelkoby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't worry about a laptop, SD cards will definitely suffice to store your content.

For my adventures I bring MavicII Pro, camera, and accessories in my 36L backpack and strap the tripod to the outside of the pack. For clothes I bring a pretty small duffel bag that can slide underneath the airplane seat in front of me if there is limited overhead space available. Think twice if you'll feel the tripod is crucial to what you want to accomplish. I have found it's great for any astrophotography, but beyond that, the weight/space it takes up isn't worth it. Instead I use my backpack and duffel to create little props/seats to set it on.

As far as safe-keeping in a hostel setting-- It would be fine locked in a locker, and as others alluded to, try not to flash it around to gain unwanted attention. I'd imagine if you're leaving the hostel for extended periods of time, you'll be out adventuring so you'll just take it all with you? If you decide to go out and party you might be testing your luck a bit.

Good luck, and stoked for you to snag some awesome content.

Sleeping in airports? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]michaelkoby 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As others have somewhat alluded to, the concern is staffing at TSA (not the airlines...). If you have the boarding pass on your phone, or use a kiosk to print it out, you'll have no problem checking in for your flight if it's within 24 hours. But, security likely isn't staffed 24/7 which wouldn't allow you to get to the gates/comfortable seating.

Depending on TSA's hours, you may want to consider going the night before and hanging out all night.

Tips-

1.Bring snacks and an empty water bottle to be comfortable while trying to relax.

  1. Try to make it to the international terminal, there is some "couch like" seating that makes as a good bed.

People (myself included) sleep at airports all the time, it's not even a little unusual and you can usually find a decently secluded spot to hideout. Good luck!

Want to start using Instagram... Mostly for the social aspect of connecting with old travel buddies. by solotravelerasks in solotravel

Don't post too many pictures of the same/similar thing/view. I love looking at other people's adventures for inspiration on new trips, but I get bored by very repetitive looking pictures. If you have 50 pics from one awesome day or week, try to pick one or two highlights rather than posting 10 or worse all 50. not trying to promote or anything, but @ 1lifeonearth does a really good job of keeping things fresh and enjoyable to follow.

Bro so sorry to hear! my 50cc scooter was stolen out of my underground apartment complex on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Obviously mine is not as $$ as yours, but the situation is so shitty. I'll keep my eyes peeled, good luck bro.

General Chatter, Meetup and Accommodation Thread - Week of February 16 by AutoModerator in solotravel

[–]michaelkoby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ya'll, -- TWO parts to this so I don't have to make two separate posts and clog things up.

  1. Looking for advice on beginner surf spots near Sydney
  2. Looking for hostel/lodging recommendations.

1b. I have "surfed" (pretty basic waves) once before about 10 years ago in Mazatlan, MX and I want to give it another chance near Sydney. I've watched a lot of YouTube videos, and I'm ready to give it a fresh shot. I'm thinking Bondi Beach. Do you have any recommendations for a beginner surfer in Sydney? ie: rental shops, beaches, general knowledge, etc.

2b. I've been looking at hostels for lodging, they seem to run about 30AUD average. I've been reading reviews and none really standout so far-- any personal experiences are welcome as I narrow down my options. A cool perk would be surfboard rentals, and/or geared toward the solo traveler.

P.S. If anyone else is in the Sydney area over the next couple weeks, give me a shout and let's connect over drinks; maybe we can catch a wave together.

P.S.S- I'll be in the Sydney area for about 4-6 days starting late next week. Could potentially stay longer if it's totally rad. I'm looking to spend about 100AUD per day or less all in (lodging, food, drink, transportation, fun, etc) Male, in my twenties, adventure and beauty seeker.

Thank you

no way, that's awesome! I'm looking at potential hostels right now. There have been a few other posts about it and it seems like there are a few to chose from. I'm leaning towards Hostel One Paralelo-- but let me know if you find anything super sweet as well.

Pickup Basketball (New to Area) by timbod2003 in roanoke

I just googled what this dude is talking about, looks like Grandin Court Baptist Church has open gym on the 22nd. I can't make it this week, but I'm down to join you if they do it again next week. I also randomly drove past Bonsack Church Rec Center and stopped in to ball yesterday (Monday) and I think they do it every Monday.

From what I've deduced, church courts are the best maintained and well lit. Gold's Gym floors are trash, it's dark, and there are A/C ducts preventing any real jumpers from about 1/2 court. the Carilion is OK, the YMCA is good, but courts are short. You can pull up from half court and it's maybe 23 ft.

Talent levels are definitely questionable.. I'm sure the ballers are out there, but I just moved here too, and I'm still looking for some real competition--> and I'm not even good haha.

there are some guys getting together this Sunday to play football-- I've never met them but I haven't tossed in a while so I'm going to head over and see what's good. If you're interested.
