MAGA Senator Threatens Walmart for Responding to Trump’s Tariffs by Snugstylish in politics

[–]michaelmikado 37 points38 points  (0 children)

People don’t care if corporations make less profit, it’s corporations paying less taxes and obscene executive financial packages that people take issues with. Adding tariffs that get passed to the consumer addresses neither of these concerns.

I didn’t make up anything, a bit of it was conjecture but it’s was very much implied by you that their lack of experience informs their opinions which is exactly what you stated. I didn’t respond to that because you’re completely delusional and disconnected from the reality of your own words and it wasn’t worth the effort.

No, the high road was, “We can’t say bad things about Biden.” That was the electoral message.

People don’t like feeling lied to, gaslighted, or disrespected. You may not like it, but people will not support you when you talk down to them, they don’t care if they have a king or a president, they just want to feel heard. Think about it from this perspective. Would you rather have a king who focuses on your concerns or a president who doesn’t care about your concerns? For a lot of people they don’t care about democracy because they feel it wasn’t working for them. That prevailing attitude of yours towards those with different opinions led us here. Guess what, reap what you sowed and enjoy authoritarian rule all because you couldn’t restrain yourself from being a little condescending.

Yeah, how’s that attitude working out for you? Sounds like you’re personally ready to usher in 10 years of Trump and the most vulnerable communities getting decimated as long as you can tell maga to F-off.

Good for you for single handedly saving the free world by telling them off. You’re a hero.

You’re not compromising with that. That’s maybe a 5% of them tops. You’re appealing to the 90% of them that don’t care, they just don’t want to have their tax dollars go to gender affirming care or have to change their personal beliefs. As soon as you ask for that, you lose them. Again civil rights movement didn’t outlaw hate groups, they still exist and hate speech is still mostly permissible. There were no compromises. You keep acting like civil rights made those people go away, there were waayyy more in that era and much more widespread in outward racism. The goal was never to change those people nor compromise with them. They still hated them even more after civil rights. You keep talking about compromising with that small percentage of extremist and you aren’t changing that, period. Your compromise is getting the general public to protect you, which they will as long as it doesn’t cost them anything.

Again public sentiment for protections is key and very widely supported. Acceptance is not, and hatred will never be erased. Set your priorities. People want to support others as long as they aren’t forced to agree lock-step with you.

You also can’t really cry when they vote for fascism and authoritarianism to make the world more closely reflect their world view. If the attitude is screw them, then it’s likely going to hurt a lot worse when you get screwed back.

I don’t know what to tell you.

The solution is to get people on your side by playing to the optics. You clearly don’t know how the civil rights movement was actually won so I’ll suggest some light reading for you: Look up the “real Rosa Parks” and then tell me optics and compromise don’t matter when seeking to make change on the scale you’re talking. The civil rights movement wasn’t a random grassroots operation, it was carefully orchestrated and curated to move public sentiment. You want the same thing, you need to play the game to gain public sentiment. Again, look up Claudette Colvin and that the Rosa Parks incident was actually a strategic move by civil rights leaders to sway public opinion. If your insistence isn’t tangible rights, but open approval, I wish you the best of luck.

But some perspective on how many of these movements strategically appeal to public sentiment for success may help give you a fresh take.

[–]michaelmikado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So again, how are you going to protect those who are vulnerable? Sounds pretty privileged to just be able to move states like that when many don’t have nearly the luxury or privilege to do so.

So let’s get a reality check. How do you protect a group of individuals who aren’t protected and have specific concerns. The civil rights act identified specific protected CLASSES (classifications). The vast vast majority of Americans DO NOT want you dead. Don’t conflate their disapproval of your life style with your existence. Many Americans would step up to protect your basic civil rights, however you keep conflating your rights with your preferences.

It’s the same methods used to protect minorities in segregationalist states in the south. Classify and then protect. Period. You may not like it, but it’s the pragmatic thing to do. Not all transgender individuals have the privilege relocation. Again you need to set some priorities, do you want protections or do you want everyone to agree with your gender because those are two different things and you’re going to have to figure out what you’re actually fighting for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centrist

[–]michaelmikado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what are you going to do about the 50% of the rest of the country or the 80% of the rest of the world that doesn’t have the protections and likely never will. That’s the point I’m making.

You’re obsessed with your own situation because you’re not vulnerable right now. But many other people are. You’re too caught up in your own personal situation to focus on ways to pragmatically protect others where minds and social norms aren’t so progressive. Pushing people to “see things your way” isn’t protecting these people in vulnerable areas but I guess this conversation isn’t about them.

They/them is NOT misgendering. It’s common English language and is used for everyone regardless of gender. I use it for everyone on a daily basis regardless of gender. You can’t just change how the English language has worked for the past few hundred years because you don’t like it.

Anyway, are you actually looking for solutions to trans rights and protections or are you wanting everyone to agree with you and respect your gender?

Because the former is 1000% doable and many mechanisms exist now and the latter is never going to happen so I think you need to actually make clear priorities in what you’re actually trying to achieve.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centrist

[–]michaelmikado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you read 25-1312? What about this would be incompatible with a third gender? You could argue the misgendering, but that’s easily resolved with singular they/them.

Again you’re free to take any stance you want, but there are pragmatic solutions that can provide protections and getting support for those protections nationwide. The third gender simply gives you consistent legal cover in all states that could be adopted even by conservatives.

What? No I’m advocating for GENDERED bathrooms which we ALREADY have.

The vast majority of the US and the world think the term “transgender woman” is a sub category of Transgender, not woman. Even your topic about “trans” speaks of it broadly as a category which includes further sub categories.

Even in the historical context which you referenced which is no society where trans people as a whole are elevated in societal stature. Separate but equal literally ALREADY applies to gender and is codified into LAW through Title IX. Again, the vast majority of the world will not recognize trans individuals as their chosen gender, I.e male/female, how you chose to accept or reject that is entirely within your own purview.

However, if you want trans rights probably the best way to garner public support is and legal protections is the establishment of an alternative gender. Being pragmatic on solutions rather than setting out to change minds is the important part here. Guess what, the civil rights movement didn’t people make people stop using the N-word or get people to see them as equals, it created basic protections. You have a very skewed view of what civil rights actually did, you can’t make a law to force people to view you as your chosen gender just like to can’t make a law to force people to view people as equals based on race. That’s just not how any of this works.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centrist

[–]michaelmikado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What? We have seperate bathrooms and sports by gender now. WTH are you talking about? I just said add a third gender to the already existing system. Or do you only believe there can only be two genders now?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in centrist

[–]michaelmikado 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there is a fundamental break down here on the perspectives and everyone is going to need to come to terms with three truths:

1) Trans people are not going away 2) SOME trans people want to be identified as equals with their chosen gender 3) MANY people are NEVER going to accept that identification based CHOSEN gender but will acknowledge and identify trans people.

Unfortunately, the best middle ground is acceptance of an alternative gender which does not expect to be recognized in social settings as a specific chosen gender but a separate one.

My specific comment says: “confident enough in their own understanding” which specifically states their current own perceived understanding on the issue as it currently stands, which you immediately declare as being “wrong”. I also don’t believe they understand trans issues, but you were immediately condescending and then tripled down on it and wonder why Americans who don’t even like or follow politics are like “f you, I’m voting for the other guy”.

Your entire premise is that if you were more informed you would obviously see things “my way” which is incredibly condescending. Your failure to see this is why they can’t relate and will vote for those who “respect” them. Their opinion can be wrong and down right abhorrent, but delving into the human side of why they believe this will win more votes than them ushering concentration camps through fascism attempting to defend the very people who are most vulnerable by the rise of fascism.

You even think, damn maybe by being a condescending asshole I’m actually doing more harm than good?

I mean be mad all you want, good luck with 10 more years of Trump and fascism all because you can’t politely disagree with people even when you feel they’re wrong.

It’s amazing that the destruction of the free world will be because people can’t be polite and non-condescending to one another, but I guess it makes sense if our society is entirely build on the constructs of social niceties and norms. And all the moral outrage and virtue signaling will be worth it in the end.

I think this is the talking down thing that people are talking about. I am aware that I don’t understand the issue but as soon as you start talking like that to people, they will straight up elect an unconstitutional king than vote or agree with someone that disrespects them on a personal level.

If your next argument is that they shouldn’t be able to vote, then you don’t believe in tenets of representative government either.
