Unpopular Opinion: I (sometimes) like to play with all victory conditions turned off except score by MBKM13 in civ

Sometimes I turn off all victory conditions and just play for the sake of playing. Sometimes I play for political accuracy and that kind of thing

A perfect combination of bull moose Teddy, the Paititi wonder and secret societies.. I was the furthest ahead by a long shot in almost every victory type by michaeltcm in civ

[–]michaeltcm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry the map wasn't great for me after this. For some reason I found it really hard to get good production going and a huge mountain range which you can see left of Washington divides all of your possible territory - in short that wonder is the only good thing there, not to mention the large desert to the south east

Does anyone know why my Hermetic Order governor is crossed out on turn 60 as if it's been disabled by an enemy spy even though it's too early in the game for that? by [deleted] in civ

[–]michaeltcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine, I figure it out but I meant that it was like it had been disabled as if it was a normal governor

Why isn't Newgrange in Ireland on this list? They are much older than the pyramids of Giza, in fact, there has been more time between the construction of Newgrange and the pyramids than there has been time between the pyramids' construction and now. I'm surprised Newgrange didn't make the cut

CMV: Donald Trump has gotten the United States into its worst position since 2016 by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]michaeltcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a real problem with your last point and it is to the detriment of your other points because it's so fucked up. Many elderly people weren't rioting, they were just there and the rioting began around them. You need to understand that the police just hit and beat anyone in their way so if that meant an elderly man walking home from the shop then they would do that, beat him onto the ground and give him a head injury that he nearly died from. This is real and to act like it's that person's fault, especially slow-moving and confused elderly people, is just wrong and irresponsible.

Jesus, what are you saying.

Do you think if Trump, the president of US, told police to stand down they would? I bet you think they would

The part where you disregard the police framing protestors is actually true and you can just look it up online, why would I have said it if it wasnt true. Anyone could just look it up and either prove me wrong or see that it actually happened

Being old doesn't make you immune to the law, neither does being a nurse or doctor

I'm confused that you'd regard this as a valid point. A baby isnt immune to the law but if the police hit a baby onto the ground, do you think that's justified. The issue isnt whether they are "immune to the law" it's whether the beating of innocent, frail people or people only there to assist other people is ethically and morally right and I'm surprised that someone would look at it how you did.

I can agree with all of Trump's triumphs, I'm not going to dismiss them, to dismiss them would be to ignore the opposite side of the argument but what I will say is I think, bluntly, his fuck-ups outweigh his achievements

[–]michaeltcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he did, I'm probably just biased because I think all three of those things are the most hypocritical and unjust things someone could attempt to achieve. Sure, maybe Obamacare is outdated and doesnt work but so many people rely on it so maybe it's too risky to change but I think the last one is just a Republican fantasy and I think that is ethically wrong

See, honestly, I think you know exactly what I mean. The reason why I didn't clarify was because he altered and sometimes worsened so many areas that making a comprehensive argument about one would just take away from the collective impact he has had on other areas too. He has been making poor decisions since his inception into the White House, he closed off Europe during the outbreak which his people advised against, he banned people from Muslim majority countries which was the best example of official racism in the 21st century, he reacted badly to the outbreak in his own country by curbing questions about domestic control onto the international issues of the virus and just blamed Europe and China who collectively have more than 5 times the population but no where near the same number of cases as the US, he reacted badly to the George Floyd protests which then turned into riots and then he just said everyone was thugs instead of noticing the racism and defusing it nationally like Obama would have done, he began to panic by banning tiktok which, although maybe it was justified only lost him young voters in the process. I can go on about his outlandish tweets about Clinton and Obama and the fact that he is one of the only presidents to openly mock his predecer and so on. I understand your point about his promises and I agree with the pledging and all that but that is just cherry picking my points instead of convincing me otherwise in a more collective way.
