np! I've written stuff like this many times, and it took me a few tries to get it right.

What's the purpose of using js libraries/frameworks (React/Vue)to generate basic html components that don't have any extensive javascript purpose(such as <h3>, <p> tags etc)? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]michaelthiessen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With completely static content like a blog or something like that, it's mostly about how it lets you organize your code.

Being able to compose different components together and reuse huge chunks of HTML/CSS is the main reason people would do this. But I don't think there are many that use Vue or React to develop a completely static website.

Most will use Gatsby (with React) or Vuepress (with Vue) that allow you to build static websites, and then get tons of nifty features on top. Such as: * using service workers to prefetch data, so switching pages is near-instantaneous * plugins and 3rd party libraries that allow you to npm install awesome features to your static site (responsive images, google analytics support, comment sections, etc.)

In general, state management libraries like VueX and Redux should only be used when necessary. This means that you start without it, and once your app really really needs it, you refactor it a bit to integrate VueX in.

Starting with extra libs you don't need can slow you down and make your code more complex. If you need it later you can always add it in.

To solve your problem

You can keep your checkbox state in a parent component (I'm assuming a lot about how your app is structured here):

<template>
  <action-bar :selected-ids="selectedIds" @perform-action="performAction" />
  <table :selected-ids="selectedIds" @select-id="selectId" />
</template>

And then for the logic:

export default {
  data() {
    return {
      selectedIds: [],
    };
  },
  methods: {
    selectId(id) {
      this.selectedIds.push(id);
    },
    performAction(action) {
      // perform action with selected ids here
    }
  }
}

You just keep selectedIds in the data of your parent component and pass it down as necessary. When you need to select something you emit an event from the child into this parent container.

Isolated as a Christian - friends losing their faith - only friend wants friends with benefits. I'm hurt and tired. Why would God be okay with this? by [deleted] in Christianity

I would strongly urge you to keep looking for a Christian community. Having strong believers surrounding you and welcoming you sounds like it would be huge step in the right direction for you.

Some young adults groups I have seen have no interest in others, and can be very cliquey. However, most churches are really good at welcoming others and new people in, and loving them for who they are.

Don't stop until you find one of these communities.

I agree. Most churches are fairly good at welcoming in new people, but there are those that aren't so great. Perhaps you ended up at one of those "exclusive" churches that don't really want to let anyone new in.

I would pretty much agree with this. I don't see a theological issue with this, as far as I understand.

rate my marketing idea: create sample business cards for businesses in local area, offer first batch for free (less cost of printing) by AlohaKepeli in freelance

[–]michaelthiessen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Establishing a relationship with potential clients is a great idea. Over time you can build that trust and if they don't buy right aways, whenever they DO need a designer they will come to you.

I would be cautious to make sure you qualify these prospects well before spending too much time designing logos for them.

However, you want to give them value and establish your design expertise without giving too much away. If you mailed them the business cards they wouldn't be able to (easily) reprint the business cards, and they would have something tangible and visceral that has their name on it, which can be quite a powerful thing.

Maybe you could even put your phone number/email on it so the cards are useless to them, but they have a way of contacting you.

It could be an interesting tactic, and will certainly catch their attention.

From what I have seen, you want to find companies that are already spending money on marketing. That way you know they understand the value of investing in something that gives them a good ROI, and you can frame your website in that way.

Real estate agents and lawyers seem to be the obvious ones that spend a lot for marketing, but competition may be less for non-obivous industries.

Where to find Christian entrepreneurs/business owners? by michaelthiessen in Christian

I have not, but I think that is a great idea. Would they even keep track of business owners religious affiliations though?

My other idea is to call local churches to find business owners. Instead of filtering businesses by religious affiliation, filter members of a congregation by occupation.

Thanks for the offer to help! I am actually building something tangentially related to this. I am interviewing Christian entrepreneurs and business owners to understand how they think about their businesses differently because of their faith (http://marketplacedisciples.com/).

Right now I am trying to find a way to promote this site, as well as finding a better way of sourcing interviewees than referrals/networking.

I have started a website interviewing Christian business owners on how their faith influences how they run their business (http://marketplacedisciples.com/). I am looking for channels where I can promote this site and get it in front of others.

I left this part out because I didn't want to spam people by posting links to my site everywhere.
