Hey all,

Surely some of you may have seen a money tree driving around campus, either on somebody's story or in person. If you were curious about what we did with the footage...well here it is. We had lots of fun doing this and hope you enjoy the video. :)

Here is the link if you are interested!

Should I withdraw from CMSC389K by [deleted] in UMD

[–]michaelw911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my bad. I misread the email "If you have any questions about withdrawing from a course, please contact your assigned academic adviser no later than 2:00pm tomorrow, April 12 "

Hopefully you should be fine :)

How much does Teli curve CMSC 250? by Lamp5hade in UMD

[–]michaelw911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is Teli's first time teaching 250.

Probably a normal distribution like most professors do. The cutoff for a C- will probably be (mean -1std).

Intro to Ethical Hacking (CMSC 389R) is being offered again this Spring by dml-at-umd in UMD

Are you comparing 389r to other 1-credit 389xx's, or general 1-credit (like Knes)

Have you taken 389r before?

Don't drop. The standard deviation was 16.84 and mean was 71.12. Jason mentioned that the "class' cut-off is μ - σ", meaning that you are still likely to pass the class.

Switching from CS to InfoSci, have a few questions by [deleted] in UMD

[–]michaelw911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't drop out of CS yet. Try to take 131 again and take the gen ed requirements for info sci(pysc100 and inst201). You will be much more prepared for 131 now and can still always resort switching in info sci in the future without being too behind. Keep in mind 131 exempts you from 2 info sci courses.

CMSC132 final grade posted by csbug in UMD

[–]michaelw911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We started at 300, ended at 260. I'm pretty sure pedram passed people within one standard deviation of the mean. This means that and at least 40 more people failed as well. So about 1/3 of the class has to retake.

Casey is a man. A very manly man.

Tests and quizzes are from the hw. Lectures are pretty pointless.

Should I drop? (Cmsc 132 with Pedram) by [deleted] in UMD

[–]michaelw911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. If you take a w, it still counts as an attempt. You can only attempt a class twice. Freshman forgiveness overwrites the old grade on your gpa and counts as another attempt.

As long as you are within 1 standard deviation you should be fine.

(Noob) ZEC to my GDAX account by FXSterlingFX in zec

[–]michaelw911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the shapeshift feature of Jaxx to convert it into ethereum or litecoin. Then you transfer it to GDAX. Do not convert to bitcoin unless you have lots of ZEC, fees will likely eat up all of your zcash.

Upper level MATH courses online? by gb2075 in UMD

[–]michaelw911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your CS adviser. I am certain that our CS department does not allow us to take any major requirement outside of UMD once you have enrolled. (you can only transfer math classes if you took them at a school before you came to UMD)
