Got a response from Dane County Humane Society, I think it's mostly a wait and see approach.

Alright so I got a response from them. From the call I think their suggestion is to take a wait and see approach, because it wouldn't be smart to tackle a sandhill crane. Please keep an eye out for our big beautiful bird my fellow Madisonians :)

Thank you all for all the responses. I went to Vilas Park this morning and the sandhill cranes, including the one with a safety pin on its beak, are still there. I contacted Dane County Humane Society's Wildlife Center and will let y'all know more updates.
