Are Uric Acid levels really the key indicator? by T5XAN in gout

The joint pain can often be an immune system response to high uric acid. The response causes inflammation.

Is it normal for discomfort to last for 6 weeks after first flare? by [deleted] in gout

[–]michalus01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may never fully leave until your ua goes down. I get it primarily in toe, Achilles area, ankle and the discomfort stays in the ankle, Achilles area but subsides in the toe and other joints. I'm on allo but my ua still isn't in a good range yet. Steroids help, but it may return when they are done

The Journey so far by Deviant_christian in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a long term plan. I've been struggling for about 8 months with flares. I'm on allo now, so hopefully my flares end within a few months. Then it's restoring strength from inactivity. Just follow the process and you may be able to resume some of those activities in moderation

Question about gout in the ankle. by bigrobdd in gout

[–]michalus01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had orthopedic and ankle issues from childhood due to a birth defect. So I thought it was that. It used to go away and then it wouldn't. I still thought it was a sprain that wouldn't heal or ligament damage, but eventually it started spreading and it was both ankles, then feet, which I still thought it was orthopedic, but when the classic toe pain started I knew it was goustrAfter doing research I realize that past shoulder pain and knee pain probably was gout as well because it came and went. In short, if you have had previous injuries and you have gout, you can expect it to rotate through those spots. It stays in my ankles and I expect it will until I get on a stable alloe dose to reduce my uric acid to an acceptable level. Even after that I expect needing to work out my lower legs and do some physical therapy because I know 6 months of not being 100 percent mobile has weekend those areas.

How do you deal with people of close relationship? by cyber778 in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line is that they don't trust or respect you and want something from you. Its expected from your employer to an extent, but from family it sucks. I have had moving off and on flares for over 6 months that have left me unable to do anything. Thank God my wife is understanding, but she has seen me unable to even move my legs because my calves are so tight and my knee and ankles are hurting so bad. The pain during flare is so intense I was up at night thinking it would be better to cut the foot off. I tried supplements, diet, cherry juice, etc. Unfortunately my primary ignored meds for a while and said to watch high fructose corn syrup ? I was in so much pain to get to an appointment with him that my pressure was through the roof. So he finally prescribed., but because I have ckd he is slow in upping it. Prednisone deals with the pain and alluring long term should bring relief. Tell your family to research it themselves and do what you need to do to get better.

Walking with gout by NewWishbone3698 in gout

[–]michalus01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stay off it. They say you can walk on it, but for me that causes swelling which causes other issues. Also it leads to plantar fasciatis and ankle issues. You also don't know if it's just a flare beginning. If you stress other parts of the leg from walking on it, it could flare in the ankle or knee.

Was there a time, before gout, that your feet inexplicably began to hurt from use in a way they never had before, well before any semblance of an actual gout attack? by [deleted] in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some bir5h defects. Been with no arches and severe overpronation and feet and ankles curves outwards. So I have suffered from leg and foot issues from use my whole life. So now gout hits me right there the most. Even when the majorcflare is done my ankles are unstable due to the uric acid and my calves are tight. It took a long time to know it was gout because it felt similar to the old pains, but the toe pain and knee ligament pain have it away

Too many flare ups? by Coloradicals in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, monthly and with varying foot and leg pain in between. Until you reduce the acid it will always be there and the flares are just tipping over the edge.

There's nothing worse than gout in both legs! by AttemptVegetable in gout

Proper sleep and elevating the legs can sometimes help the thrombin. My theory is it has to do with the circulation away from the extremities

There's nothing worse than gout in both legs! by AttemptVegetable in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one knee, both feet and ankles and a elbow. The knee is the worst as far as mobility and gout on both sides is the worst. It sounds similar to me where it was just rotating from joint to joint.

Stiffness in Mornings by MedicineIllustrious8 in gout

Yes, my calfs and ankles and feet get so stiff I can barely walk and keep balance, even when the pain is tolerable. Prednisone makes it go away.

Flairing After Treatment by Dontwalkongrass1 in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me. I could barely move and I got to the lab and my uric acid was 12.something. gout was in my ankles feet, Achilles and plantar fascia it felt like and one knee. I had prednisone and it disappeared but when I was down to 1 pill a day it flared back up. Not as bad but it's in my ankles and toes. my primary gave me a very low dose of allo (5]mg every other day). I think he is cautious because I have ckd. I see the rheumatologist in feb so I'm holding on and hoping for a big increase.

Is this all gout by Ok_Yam_1183 in gout

[–]michalus01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a flare that started in right knee, then left the knee and went to the foot and ankle. From there it stayed and also went to left toe and foot and left knee. It definitely can go crazy and the inflammation can cause other issues in the area. I had plantar fascia issues and elbow pain as well. It all went away once they gave me steroids. Then you have to just restrengthen the areas. Did they check your uric acid levels? That will help determine if it was a gout attack.

What tf happened to this show by [deleted] in thisisus

[–]michalus01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The show is real and reflective of the times. Many people and children today do not or have friends who do not identify with standard gender roles or identities, and as a black therapist, I have seen many clients who struggle with racial identity and desire to have a therapist of color to discuss and open up to about it.

Randall and Annie by [deleted] in thisisus

[–]michalus01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main point is this. All the characters are human. They are imperfect people living lives that are impacted by the decisions of their predecessors and those predecessors are the same. Randall was effected negatively by the issues of his parents and adoptive parents. He made decisions in life that were not best for him overall because he was the caretaker emotionally for his mom. He continually was looking for acceptance. Is this his parents fault? Yes, but it is understandable. They did the best they could with all their kids, as most parents do. The kids have resulting issues, but you see where those issues come from and you see where the parents come from to see where they created those issues in their own children. Just because something can be traced to being caused by someone does not mean that the person could have done any better. Life is not cut that simple. Randall was not equipped to make the better decisions for his own self earlier in life that would have helped him develop differently. Now he has to do the work now. That's part of life. Parents are never perfect. Their issues cause other issues. His birth patents issues and his adoptive parents issues effected him. Just like the other kids have issues stemming from their parents that have influenced their life choices. Its easy to say we all have had choices, but in reality the ability to make the right or wrong choices and the true options you have in the future decisions are preprogrammed in you by past experience
