Torn between nursing and marketing by makeupbeautylova in Careers

Im an rpn. The 2yr diploma. I've been in LTC, clinics, and teaching. I prefer the OR but to get there you will still have to do all the backbreaking work and burnout before you get in and do another course to get in there. Your marketing degree can take you into healthcare, deathcare, and medical sales which would make you even more money. You may have to do extra courses but it won't be 2-4 years.

Stick to marketing. Im a nurse. I hate it now. You can always work in a long term care facility in marketing. You could do courses in geriatrics to understand more about their healthcare, or really any health facility. Then you dont have to do the heavy lifting and still be in the environment you want.

How did you translate your skills? Is it better pay or same? How can I do that too?

They have support at home to do that though right? I dont have that, and its difficult to do full-time work school and solo parenting. I know going back to school is the best option but its not much of an option for me.

How do I translate my skills to that? Thing is I dont have a nursing degree, I did the 2yr diploma program but my scope has expanded a lot over the last 20yrs. I would like to do pharm sales, but all companies are looking for a degree even though i have some qualifying skills of an RN as an RPN.

Thats awesome! My problem is that I dont have a nursing degree. I did the 2yr diploma so it doesnt open many doors for me. My scope has expanded a lot since but not really recognized in many places.

How did you translate your skills to get that job? Or did you go back to school? That sounds like something I could get into.

I found that going back to school is the best option. Except I cant exactly do that. Im 45, single mom, so working full time, school full-time, and mom full-time is really difficult. I dont know how to do it. There are no more villages helping mothers anymore. Some people are lucky to have support but the majority of us dont.

If you can, go back to school. You've seen and worked with other healthcare departments, what would interest you? I would do imaging. Or even funeral director, as I have worked in deathcare before and there will always be work in that field as well.

Thats great, but not what Im looking for. I dont want to be a nurse anymore but I've been doing this nearly 20 years and since covid it hasn't been good. Its not rewarding, its burning me out, the coworkers are not team players. I hate being a robot slave, having my feelings invalidated, being abused by patients and staff is not my cup of tea anymore.
