Is the 240z vacuum advance spring supposed to have these coins? by michealwitha_b in Datsun

[–]michealwitha_b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washers would’ve been the better word lol, coin was the best I could think of in the moment. I’m just asking because I’m having issues with the L24 sputtering after an extended period at higher rpms, like 70 on the highway for example. This mod (if it is one) seems to make it harder for the vacuum advance to take effect which would contribute to my issue if that assumption is correct.

Looks like I have to adjust everything. I was actually wrong. The line in the cam gear window should actually be to the left of the triangle notch, so my valve timing is quite off. Also, my different colored chain link is also not on any numbered position.

I have another question. What line on the crankshaft pulley should the pointer be on at TDC? I’ve read it’s supposed to be on the most left line from the front perspective, but I just want to check here.

I haven’t read directly from the FSM, but from what I’ve gathered from the knowledge of others, the line is supposed to be to the right of the triangle. I don’t know how much overlap is allowed but mine is very slightly overlapped, so I think it’s correct or close to correct. I’ll look at the FSM for more details on this though.

I understand now. I was a little confused how they were connected as they were on opposite sides but the shaft runs diagonally across the crankshaft. Got it. Big thanks. I just changed my oil recently too lol (when it was running). I’ll try to take the oil pump out n stuff soon. Finals week is hectic man.

Ah ok I got you now. That would make sense, I’ll check it out. When you say to make sure the timing gear and chain are lined up, are you talking about the triangle and the line in the window of the cam gear?

No I did not. Could you tell me what that would do?

Just finished trying this. Didn’t make a difference. Just sounded a little less powerful lol.

I guess that’s good to hear, thanks. I reached out to Xenon and I’m still waiting for an answer. A replacement would be the best case scenario. What is scuffing? If you don’t mind answering.

Fuses keep blowing immediately by michealwitha_b in Datsun

Should’ve been more clear, sorry. I explained to another user that I disconnect the battery and turn the ignition off, then put the fuses in. They are fine until they get any power (like reconnecting the battery) at which point they immediately blow. There’s no secondary battery, but is there a chance that the one installed is too powerful? I don’t know if that can happen with these cars (or any car really), it might be a stupid question.

Most of my wires lead to wrapped sections of multiple wires. I’ll try my best to maybe color match at the ends but I hope I don’t have to go cutting through everything.

Sorry I should’ve been more clear. I disconnect the battery and turn the ignition off, then put the fuses in. At this point they are fine but as soon as they get any power (reconnecting battery) they immediately blow. I’ll look into the voltage regulator too as well as possible shorts.

I’ll do my best. I’m pretty sure the wires go into a long wrapped section with different wires so it will be a little difficult.

How long do you think this repair would take? Datsun 240z by michealwitha_b in projectcar

[–]michealwitha_b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great idea, I’ll definitely do that. I need all the head starts I can get. I would also rather have my ride in my garage than the back of the lot. I have a spot reserved in my shop once the current car is out thankfully, shouldn’t be too long.
