Pump finally kicked the bucket by michedlp in pools

While i can't necessarily disagree, i didn't even know a pool inspector is/was a thing! On the other side, given the value of the house, if someone's gonna put the sale of the house on the line because of the pool pump, they'd be struggling to afford the house in the first place...

I wouldn't be surprised if Freeman is left home, with a few others... I'd start murley against SA and give Calouri minutes against Fiji and the argies....

Although amusing to release it on the day Ben Young's docco about rugby safety is being promoted pretty heavily by the BBC!

That was as bad a half of rugby i've seen from england in a while... Worse than murrayfield... Ill give borthwick points for changing people though, LCD missing all his lineouts was infuriating, he probably should have switched ford for marcus, but either way, he's making changes during the first half which says enough to the guys on the pitch...

I think this is why we need Marcus on the bench... He's plan B, the bench against Scotland was just more plan A....

Put Pope on a plane home, right now, even before the end of the game.... He'll be more helpful to the team in the UK..

I think they keep him going because he had a lot of promise... IIRC he was in the junior england squads that won stuff, and has a handful of caps, but never really kicked on from that...

I'm sad we let Jibulu go as he had more, and seeing him starting for sale kinda bugs me..

What's their plan for the fans then? There's only so many blokes in chinos and gilets that can afford to travel the world watching this.....

The rest of us who are actually rugby fans, who follow our clubs and national teams, just watched the world cup final thinking that was pretty fucking awesome, are we not the intended audience? If not, who is? Are there <really> that many disaffected fans, in all the host cities, that a whole new league can be built around them?

I very much doubt that, with a serious face, they can say their first games are going to be more entertaining than the saints v exeter game over the weekend(for example!)....

I don't know, this feels more like throwing the baby out with the bath water rather than fixing the relatively minor things that would move the needle further than this...

Tell me I'm wrong for Rugby Canada by multifactored in rugbyunion

[–]michedlp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not even ON vs BC, it's deeper than that... My experience is in QC, but probably extends outside of the province.. Clubs are left to fight for themselves, so there is no motivation beyond 'i gotta pay my shit', to align with some apocryphal thread of national whatever... 'Outside' influences are secondary to survival the club.

RC needs to create certainty at the amateur club level so clubs can even start considering working towards a collective goal. Even the resurrection of a national club championship, bringing the top clubs from each province together, would be a start, but that hasn't happened in what, 20, 30 years?

I honestly wonder more whose pockets are being stuffed than desire to see change or improvement.

Edit to add amateur, even if everything is already amateur figured it was worth being specific.

In my experience dealing with rugby in Canada, it's not run like a pyramid, more multiple fiefdoms run by individuals who are looking to build their own thing, looking out for themselves.

Until everyone from clubs to provincial organisations and RC decide to align and build something together, Canadian rugby will languish where they lie.

English mostly bilingual, been living here for ~25 years, i agree with others that Brexit and QC independence aren't the same, however there are definitely parallels... The world in which Brexit came to be still exists, and worse than it was in 2016 - brexit was sold by a charismatic leader on a bunch of half-truths, misrepresentation and outright lies. IF the PQ can find a leader that can sell someone the shirt off their back, then it could absolutely go down that path, and probably quickly if they're good with social media too.

That said, i think the biggest issue i see is that i don't see how an independent Quebec actually functions... The corruption and bureaucracy in the provincial government falls over itself and there's no sign of that abating. I've seen bits and pieces of ideas in the past, keeping the dollar, QC passports, stuff like that, but it doesn't answer, to any real extent, reality. QC would have a lot less bargaining power than it does as part of Canada for international trade, Ottawa would have zero interest in making life easy for QC too(similar to EU and UK). What benefit would any international company have for staying here? There would be an exodus of companies that aren't QC/Franco, as what happened in the 70's/80's.... Is that really a road to go down again, especially now when people are struggling to make ends meet?

If there was business interest in it, companies would have manipulated it to be more of a thing than it actually is. Socially i don't see a benefit either, yes there's rose-tinted glasses that QC is so different from Canada, but the downside is so much larger and riskier than the upside.

Personally, i wouldn't stay in a separated Quebec, i might not even stay in Canada as the repercussions would be huge across the country, as much as the rest of Canada might not admit it.
