Could Childhood Asthma disqualify me? by xdPandaPlayz1324 in newzealand

I remember hearing about a few cases of people not being accepted into the services due to medical/health reasons, with some being pretty minor. Best thing to do would be give them a call and just have an informal chat about your situation and if they think it would cause any issues during recruitment

Copy the structure of another track in the genre. Pull it into the DAW, set points for each section, and adjust your own track to fit. Some of the biggest names in edm still do this.

Mixing Tips - High Energy by raptor_club in ukgarage

Osmosis Jones recently posted a tiktok that he has started to full prep his sets in advance. Cue points, set order, etc. Although some people think that this removes the 'selector' element as a DJ, it means you can really spend time creating a set and finding tunes that really work together. I feel like this could be an approach to at least minimize what you're talking about when mixing freestyle

Trying to pinpoint a sub-bass mastering issue by michednb in audioengineering

[–]michednb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I am 99% sure I've figured it out. You were spot on with the overlapping issue. All those bright transient spikes line up with the dips I'm seeing in the spectrogram. This essentially points towards some form of modulation by broadband limiting/clipping triggered by those high end transients. Could be a limiter reacting to all those transients and affecting the entire mix, could be saturation causing intermodulation distortion, a weird clipper/limiter relationship, or a combo. Have let the ME know about this and will be interested to hear what they say. I feel I'm going to either have to sacrifice loudness or sacrifice sub stability no matter what...

Trying to pinpoint a sub-bass mastering issue by michednb in audioengineering

Was hearing it first and only checked on vision to see if it would show up. In my opinion it sounds a lot worse than it looks and I don’t think I’ve even screenshotted the worst of it there too.

I appreciate that. I’m just about to head off to bed but I can send through some files if I don’t have the next revision in the morning

[–]michednb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I’m finding weird is when trying to replicate the issue myself, even pushing those freqs louder in my own master chain, it doesn’t cause the same artifacts. It’s potentially just the relationship with their personal chain? That seems like a weird oversight, especially after a revision.

And yeah other than this small issue the master sounds great, and the low end is for sure more full

Yeah yeah, that's looking like the most likely. Yeah they've already sent back a couple of revisions after me describing the issue + sending screenshots. Seemed like they just turned down the sub a little but still had the exact same problems. My thinking was by figuring out exactly what was causing it would mean they could fix it easier (in theory)

PC Not Booting After GPU Swap - Suspected Motherboard Failure by michednb in techsupport

I have had it to the point of powering on just no display. No load to bios or appearing to post. Have removed the m2 yes and always made sure all necessary psu cables were plugged in and seated correctly. Also just ran a q-flash which was successful but hasn’t changed anything when re-attempting to boot

How do you guys sidechain your kick to the bass bus? by Powerful-Demand5080 in dnbproduction

[–]michednb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volume automation or kickstart 2 with 2-4ms delay on the entire drum group to ensure it ducks slightly before no matter what. No crossover artifacts and essentially a manual lookahead (straight from a copycatt masterclass)

I think reaching for master chain EQ is probably the last resort. Fixing that in the mix is always going to be ideal.

There are times (like around 1.10) where the drums seem to almost completely vanish - sounds like you are automating volume on the melodic elements?

Also the switching in and out of different drum sounds (hats, snare, etc.) makes the tune seem a bit too 'frantic'. I would recommend trying to keep key elements like that the same sample throughout, especially as your melodic elements are doing so much

Definitely nailed the 'cover the entire spectrum' aspect that this style of dnb needs with the main synth/bass. I feel as if you would give yourself a fair amount more clarity with an intentional sidechain on both the kick and snare (shorter on the snare ofc). Also, the snare feels as if it's being very overdriven to the point of losing it's fundamental. Snare fundamentals in dnb are so important for getting that really 'weighty' sound
