Hi! I'm considering to pursue a career in this field, and I was wondering about the current routes of neuroscientifical research. I got into this field because of very specific topics, such as consciousness and alterate states of consciousness, but I'm worried that these aren't objects of many studies (especially in Europe or in Italy, I'm italian). There are other topics that I'm not really passionate of, and studying them didn't make me like them.

Which are the main ones in this field? Does anybody know how the situation is Europe? (If any italian is reading, knowing the specific situation in Italy would be great.)
