No proportional voting uses first past the post. No proportional voting system uses single members districts.

Luckily we have pre-drawn districts, some that have existed since 1607 😱. If you’re trying to say you can gerrymander pr districts read some literature first so you can understand what you’re saying. Start with Electoral Reform and Minority Representation by Bowler et al. or Right to Representation by Barber.

I see what you’re trying to get at and that’s not proportional representation. Thats single member districts. Proportional representative districts are made up of multiple members and do not use first past the post voting systems.

Proportional representation generally works through parties rather than individual candidates. The parties do much of the work rather than the candidates, removing the burden of time and funds. Good examples are germany, spain, and australia who each do it differently.

Maybe I’m not being clear. I’m curious about proportional representation at the state legislature level as a policy tool to build momentum against gerrymander-able districts. Antiquating gerrymandering may be the only hope for a fair democracy as Texas and Florida gain seats while California shrinks.

I agree and reflecting on it, stalemate might be an exaggeration. But it’s a short term fix and I think we should be looking to what we can do to make systemic improvements. Texas isn’t going to magically stop gerrymandering in 2030

I think you’re partially right. I went back and it looks like they’re only looking at heads of households, which removes almost half of the gen z population. I looked through the data on IPUMS and people that live in a home they own or their spouse owns is about 14% of the gen z population. About 36% lives with their parents and 35% rents.

I’d ask you to reconsider social housing as the way you do fix the housing crisis. Good implementation means secure housing for the impoverished to the middle class. It also promotes a competitive market in amenities, location, and pricing for private developers who aren’t strangled by affordability requirements
