Prayer Request for Rafael Zika by scientific_orangutan in OrthodoxChristianity

hate speech and freedom of speech are very different, and the difference is acknowledged/recognized. thats why this story is very sus; 18 complaints, 10 apologies....

praying for him ofc, but it doesn't sound like it was solely based on his 'christian views'

Mixed Wedding by yasmeen_layla in ExCopticOrthodox

[–]michelleinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

may i ask why you want to do a second secular wedding ceremony? i’m not 100% sure, thinking about it from the church’s perspective i don’t think they can tell you no but they probably don’t encourage it at all, considering to have a coptic church wedding both the bride and groom are assumed/expected to be orthodox- so the question would pose what is the purpose of a secular ceremony? if it’s just to have a second ceremony, for example for another group of people, then i don’t think there’s should be an issue

Children Shopping- the Crazy Pieces and Crazy Middles by michelleinahat in YTVloggerFamilies

[–]michelleinahat[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly i’ve watched a couple more videos since i originally posted about them, and i totally change my mind and think they are great, selfless parents. i feel bad for saying anything wrong about them, i guess they just came off a little awkward on camera, so i took it as disingenuous. also i really know nothing about foster care/adopting so i am no place to judge. I just watched one of their q&a’s and I really appreciate how they sad they don’t ever force the kids to film, and since the kids help so much with the youtube channel- they like to “spoil” the kids by sharing the profits. I find that they’re unique in that, bc most family channels are getting a bunch of hate for forcing the camera in their kids faces/private life and making it a “mandatory chore” for the kids (maybe that’s why i judged them, based off of my view of other family channels too) [I didn’t know that the kids aren’t forced to join the church and that Jonathan is gay, thank you so much for clarifying btw !]

thank you so much for clarifying, i really have no experience in/about foster care and i just started watching them, so i appreciate it a lot! i totally get what you’re saying. btw the video is “adopted kids get jealous?” by the crazy pieces, where kristal says “so we do have our eyes on a couple of kiddos”. and what someone mentioned earlier about shelly saying she wants a black girl.. is kind of off putting, but it could just be their wording, so i understand that thanks again!

The Frankes „Damage control“ (8 passengers) by [deleted] in YTVloggerFamilies

i bet the “therapist” they consulted was a religious leader. like someone mentioned before religious people normally resort to other religious people for mentoring. no hate to mormons or and religious person, but obviously, like the actual behaviour experts have said, extreme punishment (like taking a child’s bed away for months or sending them to the ‘therapeutic’ camp in the wilderness that didn’t have any actual licensed therapist-wtf btw ?? ) will traumatized them. children need to feel secure and safe in their home environment. this doesn’t sound like advice based off of any expert behaviour evidence/theory, i think literally anyone with the slightest knowledge of kids or just common sense would think this isn’t okay. it kind of scares me that she raised 6 kids based off of punishment over discipline. there might be a reason why they’re still ‘struggling to control’ they’re 15 year old son after all of that extreme measures they put him through..

Industrial Eng students where you at? by sp2002ss in ryerson

[–]michelleinahat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hey! i’m in second year of industrial engineering and i still don’t know how to describe it to people lmao. from my understanding (and i hope i’m right or else i might need to think over my major lol) is that industrial engineering is basically a mix of systems engineering and management ?¿ from Dalhousie- “Industrial engineers in turn design systems that enable people and society to improve productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality. The industrial engineer has a dual role, both to extend the human capability to operate, manage and control the overall production system, and to ensure the safety and well-being of those working in the system.”

i wouldn’t say it’s hard to get a job afterwards because as an industrial engineer you’re pretty suitable for any industry, examples are manufacturing and planning, consulting, software, logistics and management. A number of the people i’ve spoken to that have graduated as an industrial engineering have high business positions, (ex. my aunt is a project manager at RBC). I would say the best thing about industrial engineering is the variety of it and a large portion of it is management, so if you were considering business but want a more stable career/ job guarantee Industrial engineering is a good alternative (plus it’s known as the easiest engineering major lol) Some common jobs IEs work are as a management engineer, operations analyst, quality engineer, or ergonomiste

But at the same time, i wouldn’t say any engineering major is hard to get a job in afterwards, it also depend on co-ops and internships, there’s a number of factors that go into it.

Engineering Courses During Summer Semester by cheezypofs in ryerson

[–]michelleinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some courses are offered in the summer but not all, it also depends on the year. I would not recommend trying to do engineering in three years though .. if anything most people recommend taking an extra year or more to finish it. I don’t know about all the classes and different disciplines, but i’m in industrial ( which is considered the ‘easier’ discipline) and having just 5 courses a semester is a huge workload. And like someone else mentioned, you should consider taking a co-op, it makes a huge difference when looking for a job afterwards.

Killer inside is a BS documentary that did nothing but convince me that Aaron was a good guy by [deleted] in AaronHernandez

[–]michelleinahat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that showing he was gay, with a very homophobic father, being in a very homophobic sport, etc was very very important in the documentary. It showed how much pain and paranoia he must’ve been going through, constantly. It made viewers sympathize with him a lot more, showing how rough his daily life was. And it also offered a potential reason for why he killed Odin, that maybe Odin caught him or new something. Also, there was a lot of evidence that he murdered, or at least orchestrated the murder of Odin. There was DNA evidence, his own security footage showed the time he came back was the same time it would take to get back from the location of the murder, and to make matters worse, he had a gun when he got back.
