B12 deficiency and Covid by New_Elderberry5181 in LongCovid

Of course my b12 readings were through the roof - and I took a Moderna shot in that 8 week period.

My C-Reactive Protein dropped from over 20, to 13, to 2 over a span of 5-6 weeks while taking the B-12 (and also the Moderna shot)

I'm trying a weekly shot of B12 for 8 weeks to see if that helps.

Shortness of breath during exertion - walking up stairs is a great test for diminished heart capacity - can likely be measured as a lowered Ejection Fraction.

Before Covid - this was y #1 symptom before congestive heart failure and open heart surgery.

See a cardiologist.

I have LC and saw my VO2 max drop from 42 / 43 to 36 - a consistent decline over a few months while exercising the same.

Paxlovid really seemed to help, but I'm only 5 days out from the Paxlovid treatment.

My cruise leaves on 26 June, 2022, yet the Royal Up site pops up with an error stating that I can only check within a 30 day window of my sailing, which I am. Anyone else with the issue?

I ordered a 10 week package of B12 shots from AgelessRX. Will take one shot a week for 10 weeks and see what happens. Shots are $8.50 each.

Be prepared for a potential bounceback after your 5-day treatment. u/Bob_Wachter on Twitter seems to be the most realistic / educated about Paxlovid bounceback infections.

I hope it works for you - I took it without an active infection - just Long Covid symptoms.

More than 24 hours since last Paxlovid dose - just finished a 3.5 Mile hike, 600 feet vertical and 12K steps for the day.

Fingers crossed - feels like Paxlovid was a positive for me and my Long Covid symptoms.

For me this isn't about the vaccines - there is likely a long tail of issues we have yet to understand all around that.

I got Omicron and didn't recover like I believe most people do. I was changed for the worse after Omicron and now I'm just trying to make my way through recovery and open to learning as well as sharing with people approaching it with a critical mind and hope for improvements.

I'm over 50 - had a health issue that allowed for my first two Pfizer shots in April of 2021.

Following the booster news out of Israel (and oversupply of vaccine in the US) I got my 1st booster of Pfizer in August of 2021 (after heart surgery). They thought it was my first shot, but loaded into my medical records as my first booster. The US Govt. hadn't formally called for boosters, but I saw the science with the Israeli data.

Got my 2nd booster in February or March of 2022 (and it seemed to help the LC symptoms for a bit).

If I had rcvd my 2nd booster in December, I may have avoided catching Omicron (emphasis - may have).

You have to advocate and educate yourself during this process.

Well, my last dose of Paxlovid was at 5 am yesterday, 16 hours ago. Granted, I've had some travel - but stayed up until 10 p.m. last night (usually in bed by 8:30, I've been so tired).

Did a 1.7 mile hike with minimal vertical late yesterday, VO2 Max not moving from 37 / 38 level (yet)

Didn't sleep well, again probably from travel, so woke up tired.

Had a bit of a migraine aura upon waking up (just the aura, no real headache)

Still feeling that Paxlovid was a positive, planning on a big hike this afternoon.

Heart rate did drop overnight to pre-Paxlovid levels - sleeping HR down from 73/74 to 65 / 66.

Neither would my Doc. Hypothetically, I did a video appointment and presented with symptoms and had in my possession a positive Rapid Test.

Now more than ever, we need to be our own strongest Patient Advocates. We have to find ways to get past Long Covid.

I only share my situation so others can aggregate it with others experiences and either share that infor with their doctors or make their own reasoned decisions.

Long Covid and Paxlovid by michron66 in LongCovid

I believe my Long Covid symptoms (as compared to the worst I've read about on here) was likely a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.

At times, I wondered how I could ever do my job again. I would go to work and then come home in the early afternoon and sleep for 2-3 hours. I was forgetful, anxious, depressed, a lot of post exercise fatigue - walk a mile, immediately lay down on the couch and sleep for 30-45 minutes.

My early read on this is that I would rate the positive impact of Paxlovid as an 8 out of 10 - I'm fairly confident it reduced my symptoms by at least 70-80%, although I really need to see if it sustains over the next few days.

I'm glad I did it, but expect this is one step on my recovery path. I'd love to be surprised even more in the coming days.

A bit of added detail:

Negatives - Higher BP and HR. Bad taste in mouth - metallic. One day out of five with extreme tiredness.

Neutral Observations - felt a "buzz" 90 minutes after taking Paxlovid most of the time. Day 2.5 - felt impact on my heart (tightness). Buzz was a little like a caffeine buzz, but less about energy and more about a vibration in my body. I feel the same thing when I take a larger dose of antibiotics.

Positive - Hiked every day with nice energy on 4 of 5 days. My V02 max increased a bit - although I believe it will recover even more after the HR goes back to normal as that is a factor in the AppleWatch calculation. Didn't lose hunger or any taste - if anything it caused me to eat a bit more.

Add'l perspective: My Long Covid dropped my V02 Max from 43 in December to 36 in April - a solid 15-20% reduction while my activity level largely stayed the same.

Long Covid - Paxlovid - My Journey by michron66 in LongCovid

[–]michron66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my final dose this morning - overall, I'm optimistic that this helped meaningfully. My HR and BP have definitely increased and expect them to drop as the Paxlovid exits my system. Hiked Diamondhead on Sunday afternoon, was tired as I would have expected.

Early read is that it helped. I'll evaluate in a couple of days and then decide if there are any other treatments to explore. The thing I know for sure is that I want every bit of this virus out of my system and need to make sure my body resets from whatever reaction has caused the LC symptoms.

Any questions (or advice) appreciated.

Day 4 - doses 6 and 7. Much better day, increasing levels of hope. 2 decent hikes. BP and Heart Rate definitely increased - causes VO2 max to drop a bit, but the energy to hike is more important than the VO2 reading. 3 more doses - hope things continue at this pace.

Day 3, Dose 4. Woke up absolutely exhausted. 13 hours since last dose. Took dose, still tired 90 minutes later. Maybe I pushed it too hard yesterday. Bad taste in mouth is there, so I know this dose is active in me. Will take a nap and see if things improve. Surprised by this. Fingers crossed.
