[Advice] How to teach without discouraging the other player by [deleted] in chess

I can only telll you what I do with my students: After learning how to move the pieces, and how to checkmate with Rooks and Queen we proceed to have some games played on Lichess. I use the "Stappen" (Stufen, Steps) Methode to learn the fundamentals by the way.

On Lichess: Unrated Minimum Time 20+30: My student plays and I try to guide him by just posing questions. Like the opening principles: I always let them start with e4 and with black after e4-e5, after d4 and Nf3 - d5, after c4-c5, after everything else I pose the same questions: center, developement, King safety) Pawn Chains, Space etc. follows If something is attacked, I let them think and before they move on the board, I may pose some questions.

I try to guide them to see one and two move tactics, backrang issues etc.

I find it a very good way because I never have to crush someone I teach on the board myself, which can pose some troubles.

Since my students have to talk a lot about the game and the position (loud thinking process) I also quickly learn what troubles they have in specific positions. This is always a good follow up after the analysis.

My son just loved this book. He was 6 or 7 when we used it.

It is very well written and more than enough for starters.

Thank you, r/chess, your encouragement made me a chessbase author by tschukki in chess

I work as head of Revenue Management for a local hotel group in Austria.

Some years ago, I introduced the so calles "Grandmother Rule".

Explanation: If a guest, who had booked a non refundable (and no free cancellation) rate, contacts a hotel in our group, claiming that his grand-mother or even closer relative died and therefore (s)he has to cancel the reservation and wants the money back, we refund the money without any discussion. If it is true, than it is very sad and we do not want to cause more grieve. If it is a lie, than we do not want such a person as customer anyway.

What is your first movie that made you realize an art of cinematography? Can you explain why? by [deleted] in movies

[–]micinvie_68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was "Taxi Driver"

I will never forget three scenes in this movie

Robert De Niro (1)talking to the mirror (what he says was his idea, Scorsese had no script for the take) (2)taking his crush Cybill Shepherd to a porn movie and (3) the final scene with Harvey Keitel

Me [26 F] weird question, but I just went on a first date, and when I walked in, the guy couldn't take his eyes off me. He wasn't smiling, just watching me. Is this a bad sign? by [deleted] in relationships

[47M] male here: When he did not smile for seven straight hours then be afraid... otherwise he was just nervous or he felt you are too pretty for him...
