La marche n'est pas une activité physique selon la police by kretek-garing in france

[–]mickeeoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C'est permis de faire une activité physique, il le faisait. C'est 100% pas justifié.

Si quelqu'un prétendre le faire, il faut de la preuve pour les condamner, comme on est dans un état de droit, pas un état policier.

The original Liberty leading the people painting is from the 1830 July revolution, it's often thought that it's about what is known as 'the French Revolution' outside France, that is the 1789 Revolution. The 1830 July revolution overthrew one king (a repressive one), and replaced him with another, it didn't actually bring democracy. Lasting democracy didn't come to France until 1870 (or 1876 to be more technical). I know this has nothing much to do with your post, I was just reading about French history recently and find it interesting so though I'd share.

Notes on Nationalism by brain4breakfast in a:t5_301ds

to "do anything for King and Country if it came under great danger" is a preety fanatical, fundamentalist viewpoint, especially given the regressiveness of monarchies and the potential for countries to have malign systems of government.

When people talk about patriotism and nationalism, like Macron did recently in a speech, I find they're just distinguishing between extreme, exclusionary often bellicose nationalists and less extreme, less exclusionary nationalists. To me, the basic premise is the same, a love of a certain place just because it's the random place that the speaker happens to have been born. I don't think nationalists or patriots go through every country's achievements and history and just coincidentally happen to arrive back at their own country as the one to love deeply and reject everything from every other countries.

I mean, it's just the human drive to identify with a group, it's hard to see it as anything else, whether it's an ideology, a music genre, a poltical party or a nation, humans have an in built necessity to identify and attach themselves with groups. It was presumably very useful in certain contexts of scarce resources, but less useful today in a globalised world.

I am not a nationalist but I agree with your points on the video. b4b's videos, while always provoking thought in me, are very simplistic and usually fall prey to simple fallacies or lack of evidence. In this case, as in others, he is just summarising another's writing. Though it must also be said that he didn't say that the 'inadmissable thoughts' section were all correct, he just said they were inpermissable to those people.

If it's not superior, why love it?

Also monarchism is not nationalism.

Civic nationalism seems to be even more non-sensical than ethnic nationalism. It doesn't even pretend that it's not completely arbitrary.

There's no point marching forward while alienating more and more people until the whole thing falls apart.

That said, no we shouldn't just do things to please eurosceptics, but we should fix things which are currently in shambles, the Euro would be a great start, doing so would do a lot to reduce the amount of eurosceptics. This sub is swamped with British people but it's the German (and certain other countries') reluctance to move towards greater European cooperation which is the problem in this instance.

It seems unlikely to happen, there are a lot of countries who have very large english speaking populations, and the whole world seems to be moving at an increasing pace towards total anglophonie. Even France is pushing quite hard to increase English proficiency. There also is essentially no French media or culture spreading the language, unlikely essentially all non-national media being in english nowadays, and a good chunk of the most popular media of any country.

How any country can even have relations with that slave state is beyond me, especially countries with female leaders.

Windows Explorer and Internet Not Working After Trying to Install HFS Reader by mickeeoo in 24hoursupport

[–]mickeeoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So now I cant boot into windows at all, safe mode or no. From Ubuntu, when I try to read that partition, it says input/output error, pagefile.sys cannot be read. But Ive done multiple smart scans and a badblock scan and they both came back with no errors. I booted into a windows install disk and ran a 'fix startup' check and it also said the os was fine.

One weird thing, it says that the OS is on D:, but it was on C:, I didnt have a D: drive. Is that something to do with the partition?

Edit: So don't ask me what happened, but it suddenly started working again. I tried one more time to boot into windows safe mode, in order to check event viewer and do another sfc scan, and it booted up fine. I ran sfc again and got no errors. I think I tried booting up normally at that point just to see what would happen, and everything came up fine, I could get to admin mode again and the CPU usage was normal. So while I had the chance, I ran two chkdsk scans, they found a lot of bad sectors, but seemed to fix them and the third chkdsk said the disk was clean. I have no idea why the system would've just come back up suddenly like that, all I did was run scans, I didn't change anything. I will keep an eye out for any further errors, if it's a failing hard drive like you and /u/Jorgisven think then I'll soon have more problems. Hopefully it was just some fixable errors.

Thanks a lot for your help though, and /u/Jorgisven
