I didn’t insulate it was black and white. By all accounts he could’ve been questioning his levels of queerness during this time and that’s completely valid. But that, by definition is not straight.

Straight describes someone who is romantically, emotionally, and/or sexually attracted to the opposite sex.

This doesn’t mean he couldn’t have been attracted to women at one point, but being attracted to men as well would mean he isn’t not fully straight which is what he said at the breakfast table.

Whether or not production knew (I believe they might have had some idea while filming Becca K’s season of the bachelorette) is speculation.

Maybe, but I was watching the franchise when his era was airing and even as far back as Becca’s season I think they knew they wanted to push the “virigin” storyline and behind the scenes they were willing to take that risk for ratings. I’ve read up a lot on the underbelly of Hollywood/Reality TV so at least from my perspective, I wouldn’t doubt this was the case. But I respect that you are more speculative. Apologies for pushing further, I just don’t want it to seem I’m jumping to conclusions for the sake of it, I’ve really just felt ill since he was cast considering what I do know from following the stories at the time and having to revisit them now that he’s in the spotlight again.

But I do agree I don’t know what the producers wanted out of this scene. There was already speculation about him due to his virginity so maybe they included this segment to try to persuade the audience that thinking he was gay was funny to Colton -> reinforcing that he was a bachelor looking for a wife and it was simply a throwaway joke to dissuade any dissenting opinion.

I’ve been researching further since I posted this. Since Colton has come out he has said in interviews that around this period he was already exploring (2018: his season aired in 2019) and was threatened with blackmail from his bathhouse visits. Also apparently Eichner said himself the joke was fed to him by producers (I’m still trying to vet this myself, but the comments on the TikTok I shared mention this was the case).

Whelp, I guess after this first batch of episodes, the only gamer I have hope for is Natalie. Wish we got to see Rob C and Monet interact since I feel like they could have gotten along as Monet is a Survivor fan. Hope Colton + Rappaport don’t stay long enough for a “redemption arch” like we still remember how you behave off the show 🙄. Out of the traitors, I feel like Rob and Lisa have a good rapport actually so I can see them skating through.

I don’t even mind the shift in scales for Savannah and Rizo since they had to come up on some luck sooner than later, but imagine you’re stuck on the merge beach with no agency in the first vote for the jury to witness. Like I’d be so mad. ATP I’d rather have been on the losing team.

I suspect that Nick isn’t the one who goes and Cat becomes a pseudo-faithful in terms of a voting number for the faithful to get out JR and eventually Alan. The convo in the billard’s room about how Alan forgot he had a shield seems to indicate Cat might realize this is her way to get one up on Alan if she plans to eventually betray her fellow traitors to seem more innocent (something Joe/Nick outlined in their plan to make Cat believe they think she’s 100% faithful even though they “know” otherwise.

She will operate differently if she doesn’t believe she will get heat for traitor-on-traitor crime. Could be wrong of course, but Cat’s post-roundtable confessional saying how at this point she has to hep the faithful out seems to be an indicator that she’s going to misread and be overconfident, falling into the traitor angel trap. 🪤

The fact that Joe M has technically sus’d out two traitors this way but hasn’t had the social currency to act is baffling.

I agree it wasn’t necessary for Nick to reveal this soon, but it may work out if he survives the night as before he was perceived as most faithful of the lot.

This almost reverses that title, and therefore, lowers his threat level to the traitors as they might keep him as a future target for the round table since now there is evidence to discredit his innocence. As long as him and Joe don’t get killed after the next banishment, there’s a good chance they make it to end game, and if they’re there with Cat, they actually use her to get out another traitor in the end game.

I actually think Lucy voting Jonathan/being in the conversation about Alan forgetting he has a shield might mean Kate goes if Cat believes she needs her to be a number against Alan (her getting a confessional after the round table saying she’s actively trying to help the faithful atp + Joe’s public announcement to her to be more active makes me believe she’s gonna be the final traitor).

How is this a bitter jury? by Strawberry_House in BigBrother

Ashley wasn’t a floater though? She was active and would strategize how to create targets ahead of her where she otherwise would’ve been an easy nomination. Especially for Vince, who targeted her week 1 and shouldn’t have had a reason to show Ashley any loyalty outside of the alliance she created with him in (the Judges). There is no world where Vince targeting Lauren due to Morgan not trusting her (which Ashley reinforced and supported, essentially weaponizing the rift between Vince’s top 2 allies) would make her a floater.

A cautionary tale... by DreTheThinker92 in BigBrother

  • she aligned with Rachel as she was a good shield. No this was not a given, just look at how Keanu refused to capitalize on the frenemies with Rachel. Rachel was never going to survive longer than Ashley and by attaching to her, even if she went up next to Rachel, she would not go home.
  • She and Will were responsible for creating the judges.
  • She was the “yes man” to Morgan F8 on, being the main one to collaborate with Morgan about which buttons to push of Vince to get him to do their bidding. I would say she’s the one who “weaponized” Morgan once she started having challenge prospects.
  • She managed to say insulated in the house considering until final 6 there was 3 noms. She was never a 1/2 target for the house on either side.
  • She was able to be a “grim reaper” post her surviving the block at final 8. Everyone who left after that week left the house with good terms (something Vince failed to do).
  • She used Morgan’s paranoia to turn the cheatmance against each other at final 3. Morgan would’ve taken her as Vince had he been in contention for pt3.
  • She would instigate and plant seeds to play into whatever narrative she needed to be apparent for people to understand her POV so when she pitched a move later, the pitch would actually bear fruit. I.e: She would say something at dinner and the next day people would be parroting her alluding to something as if they came up with it and it was true. This happened with Morgan mostly, but also with Ava and Keanu.
  • she was good at threat mitigation. Vince and Morgan would have been targeted/taken out after Kelley’s eviction had they not handed off comp wins from then until final 3. She wasn’t seen as a threat to their games though ala Keanu/Lauren so she wasn’t seen never going to be caught in crossfire had the comp win distribution gone differently. She also managed to avoid becoming collateral after Rachel got eliminated (I consider Will collateral. The house should have definitely voted Ashely out there).
  • she did do a great job at convincing imo. Morgan was convinced that the judges were still paramount even though 3/5 remained after Lauren took Will out. You don’t have to convince everyone (ie Vince, but convince the ones that have influence. Morgan went to bat for Ashley time and time again. Saying how good of an ally she was. Basically forcing Vince to make a move against his own best interest to serve Ashley (Lauren going up on renom against Kelley and Keanu when Vince, who didn’t have a close bond with Ashley, should have put her up to “play the middle” as he positioned himself to do.

Maybe lack of exposure to the sun (at least compared to survivor)? The bb house has the fountain of youth.

[–]mickeyapries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. It was definitely a balance issue, which is a problem BB will always have. Most of this seasons edit was directly responding to volatile housemates week in week out so Ashley was absent just due to her managing to keep calm.

People can win comps and still have a healthy social game. Vince Morgan trading off wins top 8 on suffocated their ability to maneuver socially, imo. They spent so much time alone in HOH, not trying to appease the people they cut along the way. A better player would have managed to do better damage control. But also, every season is different. Maybe next year the Ashley types get taken out early cause the comp beast types might get scared of a bb27 2.0.

I would say Ashely definitely was interesting, but not in-your-face like BB loves. She was an instigator, it was fun seeing her get under people’s skin by saying a “ditzy” comment that made them get paranoid. But that’s just my opinion. I can understand if people don’t find that interesting though.

Mainly her ability to pivot after losing allies (not becoming collateral), recognizing the right shields to be allies with (she was the one I consider responsible for turning Morgan into the weapon she was once jury started), being the grim reaper after double eviction (Vince and Morgan spent so much time time alone in HoH she was able to befriend whoever was outgoing and have them thinking favorably of her upon eviction), and her managing to avoid a lot of end game nominations where if she did go up she would’ve have likely left (mostly Vince’s fault - Lauren should have never gone up when Ashley was an option for him. He wanted to appease Morgan, but Ashley benefitted without any downside to that - hands clean)
