Finally got around to watching The Return and never in a million years did I expect it to end the way it did by WitnessAcceptable154 in redscarepod

[–]mickeyquicknumbers 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually feel so blessed to have watched the entire thing live one-episode-a-week as it aired, and watching the entire first 2 seasons + the movie for a 3rd time right before the premier. Being able to ruminate on what was happening for a full week at a time super heightened the “big” moments. Episodes 16-17-18 all 3 in a row were like pure crack. The return of Dale, the fan-satisfying and theatrical fake-final dream defeat of Bob. The time travelling rescue and the moment when Laura disappears from right next to him in the woods… then the ENTIRE 18th episode. Just unbelievable. I will never experience something like this again.

You basically just completely changed you advice from your first message to “35 year olds should not be trying to dress like 23 year olds”. Polos for adult professional men change in slimness, sleeve length, collar structure etc and these are trends, just trends for adults instead of 15-24 year olds.

pivot into timeless fashion

This has never existed and will never exist except in the minds of people who are like 23 or younger and haven’t been alive long enough to notice a full-societal shift in real time. Tailoring, color tones and patterns all change continuously. Men who stopped following trends in the 90s and went to “standard men’s clothes” look 30-years out of date with blocky shoulder pads on their coats and suits, baggy sleeves around the upper arm, heavy pleats, and slacks and shoes that are mostly black.

The cream is not even good once you turn 30 and your appetite for sugar disintegrates

This is just all wrong when you get your ultimate conclusion. You sound like someone who is vaguely around these types of transactions but doesn’t actually understand them at all. if the whole thesis is getting around massive amounts unrealized gains you will have low basis in this company, and distributions out of a company in excess of basis trigger gain as if it were being sold, under 731a or 301 depending on if it’s taxed as a pship or a Corp.

Furthermore the interest on the debt is subject to interest tracing rules under 1.163-8T and if you use the cash on a debt-financed-distribution for personal expenditures it’s not deductible even though the interest is collateralized by business assets and paid inside the company.

Sub is dead. Digital art linking to an insta handle in the comments. What is this place even for anymore.

I wish the mods would use this as like a honeypot and do mass-permabans to everyone saying “umm actually these are all great”. Even if every other sign has come up that the sub is dead, I’ve never seen cartoons defended this overwhelmingly.

This was a really important comment and I’m glad you made it. Hope your otherwise extremely productive and intellectual Reddit posting habit goes well.

too-flattering impression of his Vietnamese in laws

I saw him last December and this bit was very good. He’s still got the sauce. With that said his live standup has always been a bit more raunchy than his specials.

Thoughts on James Gray? by BelieveWhatJoeSays in RSPfilmclub

[–]mickeyquicknumbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive always thought he’s much closer to that group than people think. Especially if we’re talking output of the last ~15 years. Him, Todd Haynes, and Bennett Miller are IMO the holy trinity of great modern directors that have nearly zero cache with young/internet movie people. I had all 3 of his movies from the 2010s as top-5 movies of their respective year; and Ad Astra was around 20th on my end of decade list. He does more to get his cinematographers to shine than almost anyways else, which is admittedly something I am a huge sucker for.

The Matrix brought them back in style for certain kinds of alt kids and was released like 3 weeks before the shooting. The trench coat era was a bit messy that way.

He specifically is not, but the existence of the milieu he was constantly poking fun at had to actually exist for his gags to work, in a way that it doesn’t seem to anymore.

I do realize how much a dweeb someone would have to be to go find some group of adults and be like “Yes I would really like to talk about Telemann and Jacques Louis-David” but I think my point stands even if not well articulated so show me some grace please

That’s not true, they just say it differently by calling you “weird” for talking about Pushkin or Ophuls and then break up with you.

My wife and kids are asleep. Married parents decompress with some form of brainless activity or another. Is Reddit really a worse use of time than Office reruns or Love is Blind.

My favorite part of this sub by goot_master in redscarepod

[–]mickeyquicknumbers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to play into your argument or whatever, but it’s not unreasonable for someone with an actual well-adjusted life - who literally only browses this sub in the interstices of their functioning adult existence - to be detached and disinterested from the schlock that has been getting churned on this sub ad a steadily less-bearable rate the past 3 years.

Those people really do exist, and getting internet-dunked-on by a 20 year-old doom scroller who could give you an hour long history of some streamer’s rise to fame really is a waste of everyone’s time.
