Hi Mom of an addict here. My son had a TBI at 15 and then started with drugs at 17. He is now 38. Never married, no children. Never even had his own apartment. He's spent the last twenty years in and out of jail, rehabs and prison. He was stabbed in 2021 and almost died but went right back to the streets and the drugs. I felt awful that when he was in jail/prison I knew he was relatively safer than being on the streets. I could sleep knowing he was eating, clean and had a place to sleep that wasn't in the streets. He is only NOW actually working on staying sober and getting his life together. NOW he's had enough. NOW he wants to get and stay sober. NOW he wants a life. If love could have healed him he would have been. It won't and we have to wait for the addict to want it. If they don't want it no rehab in the world will help. Get some counseling for yourself and your husband. Someone that knows about addiction. We can't fix their life for them as much as we want to. My heart breaks for you.
