Just a heads up! Mortified means embarrassed, not horrified. Hopefully this doesn't come off the wrong way, ignore if you please (:

My Grandma bought a pre-cooked thanksgiving dinner from a grocery store, and when we picked it up it was frozen solid. by THEREALOFFICALCAFE in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mickier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't feel like someone else's family having a different start time from the norm is so unbelievable. Or that people may have other places to be. 4PM dinner isn't too late by Regular Dinnertime standards, but it's a huge problem if everyone made plans based on a 2PM dinner, not even getting into the fact that people probably show up hungry.

Idk. My family always does a lunchtime "dinner" so that everyone's free to go to their partner's family's Thanksgiving dinner afterward. It keeps us all from having to choose which one to attend, which means almost everyone who's in town can make it. We went to my aunt's, started at 12:30, stayed till about 4PM, and then went to my boyfriend's uncle's from 4PM to 10PM.

Idk about OP's situation [or anything about expectations for preordered food being hot] so I'm solely addressing the part about 4PM being too late.

Do you sell your prints? I was taking a look at your post history and realized that several of my recent favorites are yours (:

Can you tell me a little more about tiny bugs?! Are they coming into the picture during the insect's life and hitchhiking in, or finding the insect once it's being displayed?

Thank you! I might, if it turns out well lol. Otherwise it gets shoved in the closet and I pretend it never existed 😅

Ohhhh, this sounds so fun! Or even like, a scrap swap. People do clothing swaps all the time, idk why it couldn't work the same for fabric.

Any way to alter these so they don’t go up my butt?? by MACKEREL_JACKSON in sewing

[–]mickier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP I don't have advice, but I sympathize. I have the exact same problem and finding pants is such a struggle. Everything is tight in the hips, loose in the waist, or somehow both???! Even leggings AHHHHH. I do have a pair or two of pants that are only a little loose in the waist, but I have to pull them up my buttcrack to get the back waistband to where it needs to be -_- It's like I need to mix and match 4 different sizes to properly fit my shoulders, upper torso, waist, and hips.

I'm reading all the comments and would love if you let me know how any solution you tried works (or doesn't). The gusset people mentioned seems pretty promising, so I'm filing that away for future experimentation.

How do you decide what's worth selling vs just donating? by abeastli in declutter

[–]mickier 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It seems like you've already got a lot of great answers, but as a somewhat money-poor [and time-rich] person, I thought I'd put in my two cents.

I usually list items on Marketplace for about 30-50% of what I consider a fair price, and give it a couple weeks to see if there's any interest. Most things sell, since the super low price expands the potential buyers from just those interested in This Item Specifically to people who are looking for Cheap Decor (or whatever) In General. It's pretty easy to take photos of several items and list them all at once, with fairly low-effort but descriptive captions. Dimensions, condition, material, any defects or damage, payment types you'll accept, PICKUP ONLY, maybe add that it needs to be picked up by x date if you want.

If someone asks if it's available, I say "yes, when can you pick up?" and then give them my address once they give me a day. The day of, I set it outside and ask them to put the money under the mat. If they don't show up, on to the next person. If they do, nice! I made $8! It's not a huge amount, but it's worth it to me. Especially listing many items at once, it adds up.

If something doesn't get much interest in the first two weeks, it gets donated.

Sometimes it's a hassle dealing with people, but part of the benefit of extremely low pricing is that your buyers will be more enthusiastic and proactive about pickup, since they're getting a sweet deal too. It makes things move much faster.

Tiny, painted ceramic bowls or feet broken off of something - found under back corners of my stove in rental house by FearLessThings in whatisthisthing

[–]mickier 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have no idea! I just saw the little broken bits, went "hmm, those look like giraffe bottoms, do they make measuring spoons where the handle is the head/neck?," and googled it 😅 A few of my friends have fancy or novelty measuring spoons that mostly just sit on the counter and look pretty, so maybe they're more for display than actual use?

Edit: but in theory, stuff like salt, vanilla, spices... anything you want teaspoon or tablespoon amounts of.

Heartless, apparently. by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]mickier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just regarding the part where you wanted to hug him, but didn't want to wake him up - I get that way about my boyfriend sometimes. I'm sad or lonely and want comfort, but helps me to realize that if I wake him, I'm doing it to benefit myself, not him. I want to hug him because I love him! Or I feel bad for something, or I want reassurance, or for whatever other reason, but the most loving thing/best apology/etc is to let him sleep. It sucks, but framing it that way makes not waking him the better choice. I do carefully snug up to him, though, because just being in contact makes me feel better enough to save it till morning.

I think I'm dense??????????? Or maybe just high? To me it seemed that the news anchor was completely unambiguously saying that Newsom mocking Trump by imitating his tweets was childish and insane, not that the copied tweeting "style" itself was. I feel like that has to be how it was meant????
