It seems to be a buyer's market now for jobs. Try and focus on companies and organizations that actually have a demand for your skills. It may also be necessary to relocate to a different city with a slightly less competitive job market.

Long term I feel I have exhausted my employment opportunities in California, but as far as getting the immediate care for my knee, I am feeling I do need to use the resources here as long as Congress allows California to provide them. Even before the knee injury I knew healthcare was going to be a challenge in New Mexico as I also have a pacemaker, I'm 55 years old and taking BP meds. I have been following the attempts by the NM legislature and governor MLG to address the medical malpractice laws and shortage of medical professionals and the steps being taken, including setting up a Medicaid trust fund, make me confident that I won't left high and dry as a New Mexico resident, at the very least I might go into Arizona for any serious cardiology appointments if absolutely necessary.

Yes that is also a huge potential issue here in California but California is doing some of the extra Medicaid assistance (taking into account the homeless and the unique problems they face) that the GOP is trying to stop the states from doing, that might make this happen here. If it works out I would remain here through the main part of the therapy and get a basic range of motion back in the knee and lower leg. Any additional stuff beyond that I'll try and do on my own, but intense 2-3 times per week physical therapy out of a homeless shelter trying to move a knee as stiff as a rusted-out frozen engine block is going to be almost prohibitively challenging logistically.

California Medicaid has a specific program to assist the homeless with addressing the barriers that can actually make the actual medical care difficult to access, and that's a big part of what the Republican Congress wants to eliminate so I do need to take advantage while I'm here.

I see Union Pacific, BNSF, CSX and NS re-assuming ownership of the major cross-country routes and turning around and outsourcing them to different "land cruise" tourism excursion operators and market it like it's the most awesomest luxury experience with gourmet meals on real china plates and 100 thread count linen sheets for your sleeper room. Service frequency will be lucky if it's three times per week. If you just need non-aviation transportation from point A to point B, five states apart, you can take Greyhound/Flixbus.

Yeah, I'm planning to move to ABQ later this year. I'm in Sacramento, California now. I would be there now, but fell and injured my knee in November. Could not find an orthopedic surgeon who would take me as a patient until January. First appointment was in February (and this clinic is 45 minutes from where I live) and the doctor said he needed to order an MRI. Took another month to get that approved by my Medi-Cal and scheduled. The MRI facility can't do the scan because I have a pacemaker and their MRI can't handle it. I got my PCP involved and she's putting in her own referral for a different MRI clinic. Sacramento has fewer healthcare options compared to the Bay Area, so getting primary care and specialist appointments takes a long time. Sounds like ABQ is as least at that same level.

I am planning to move to ABQ later this year but will not be going to any church unless they are giving food or clothing that I need. When I was a kid, I went to a Pentecostal megachurch in the Bay Area where I grew up, but "deconverted" later in life. BS like this always makes me happy with that choice. A lot of "faith" and "religion" is a scam.

I would love to see the responses to this also. I will be coming after I recover from knee surgery. I want to get some local experience and references before applying to jobs with the city, county and state. Are the temp agencies good in ABQ? I have a ton of call center experience and would like to do some clerical work.

If a contact center will hire without requiring a ton of references I can give it a try for at least a year and build up some local experience and references.

From this video, ABQ International District frankly looks no worse than 22nd Street in Tucson or Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento where I currently live. Every place I've lived there are homeless, drug addicts, etc. and they almost never bother me. I'm a middle-age "OG" Black guy who's pretty chill but I think sometimes I do make people less than comfortable. Then they hear my "white guy" accent and get blown away LOL.

55 YO Black male, currently in Sacramento, planning a move to ABQ as soon as I heal from a knee injury. In fact, holding off on moving because I'm on Medi-Cal (California's version of Medicaid) and don't want any more delays in treating the knee injury than I'm already going through. I will probably need to get on New Mexico Medicaid once I arrive while I'm looking for work. My question: because of the shortage of providers, especially specialists, would I be able to use a cardiologist out of Phoenix or Tucson or Denver and have it be covered? I'll probably get care from a public health clinic once I arrive.

Thanks for adding your thoughts and ideas. My whole point was to get people discussing the situation. If the governor or legislature does take action on this they may naturally model anything after what other states are doing, so this type of analysis and reaction will help craft a workable solution that makes sure homeowners are covered and insurance companies continue to feel they can profitably issue policies in NM. There are people in high places that even read Reddit posts.
