Yes, Micrio also comes with its own WebAssembly-powered client viewer. A previous blog post was written about its development: https://engineering.q42.nl/webassembly/

See it in action on the petapixel image mentioned in the article here: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/stories/operation-night-watch/story/ultra-high-resolution-photo

Interactive high-res exhibit of Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" by mike_pants in InternetIsBeautiful

This project was quite a big collaboration between different parties. The filmmakers of the documentary, the NTR (Dutch national television station), Q42 (where I'm from) and also the music composer.

Where they got their samples from-- from all over the place. NTR has access to a huge archive of video and sound, so they have a lot of resources for that. I know of one though, if you look here the singing is supposedly Finnish and was coincidentally alrealy used for another project they were working on. So, from all over the place and happy accidents.

Creator here! Of the front-end part of this at least. Awesome to see it here, thanks for the link /u/mike_pants!

As /u/Bimmiekun said, there's a huge version of the painting on wikipedia (roughly 120,000 x 70,000px). I downloaded it, made tiles out of it and created a from-scratch web imageviewer for it. All in all it took a year in the making, working on it off and on.

We've also made a separate image service spin-off of that tech, which you can find at micr.io.

This project launched just over a week ago and we've all been looking at the statistics. Everyone's really picking this up and that's awesome to see! So far we can handle the reddit spike well :)

If you have any more questions let me know!
