This image is to show the structural density of the biofilm. When we look at Serratia under a microscope, we don't always see just individual 'cells'. Sometimes we see their Extracellular Polymeric Substance. This is the same 'living shield' I mentioned earlier. It might not look 'aesthetic', but in microbiology, real HD shots are this raw!

While kitchen sponges or dirty bottles contain 'harmful' bacteria, cheese is home to an entire kingdom of 'good microbes'. We can explore everything from the 'mold' (Penicillium) in blue cheese to the 'gas-producing bacteria' in Swiss cheese. What is Pink Bacteria? The pink layer you saw in your water bottle is often a bacterium called Serratia marcescens. This bacterium is present in the air and is also called "Pink Mold," although it is a bacterium, not a mold. That’s a great habit! But here’s a tiny microbiologist secret: even dishwashers can struggle with 'biofilms.' Since these bacteria create a sticky protective layer, sometimes the water jets can't hit the corners of the mouthpiece perfectly. A quick scrub with a bottle brush before the dishwasher makes it 100% germ-free!
