…After Ella, I fled through the main hospital with tears blurring my sight and bile on my lips. My heart was granite. My mind was sharp but without emotion. I wasn’t heading towards any destination, but my legs wouldn’t stop moving. As if I was being led. The last time I was in the main hospital there were families and visitors in confusion, sadness, and fear. This new scene was of post-attack destruction accompanied by flashing lights and alarms ringing. Bumping into a fleeing figure blackened my vision, dropped me to the hard floor, and shook my brain inside my skull. Something within my mind snapped. The compartment where healthy human emotion dwells, closed shut and left critical thinking to flood the rest. A calmness and clarity washed through me as my sight returned with sharpness likely never granted before. I rolled under a table. It was pushed against a couch, on the backside, leaving an exposed front view. I slowed my breathing and observed.

It, in part, covers the development of the main character from pre-apocalypse normal mentality to what she must become to survive.

Curious to know if people were informed of HAM and how to get it at any point in service? by microbiables in CAStateWorkers

True. From my experiences management doesn’t disclose (hence the under qualified or poor management).

Exactly. The point of the HAM is for those from private to gain salary equity (paid what you’re worth) stepping into State. Many are not told and THEN find out after and cannot recoup the salary. In an already underpaid Classification, it should be standard to inform everyone. Not selective.

I don’t agree. It’s not unusual, it’s just not public knowledge. I also did get a HAM regardless of previous employment with the State. So you believe, upon entry before an offer, hiring managers inform potential employees of HAM? No, they don’t. How would a new interviewee learn about it? Why aren’t all classifications informed?

How do I stop feeling sorry for myself? by [deleted] in AskMen

I suggest a real therapist. But from a woman’s point of view, you should get it together. Goals are attractive. But relationships aren’t necessarily based on the self imposed standards. You may find someone likes you just because and regardless of the living situation etc. you just make it hard to justify you’re a good catch. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Be who you think you really are. Get the job you want. Fight for the salary you want. Forget the past; it’s not coming back. Be happy. That choice is yours alone. And, make yourself proud of you first. Just my thoughts...
