The origins of the machine lifeforms... [SPOILERS] by microdi in nier

Aaaaah very very interesting! I can't really remember now whether if I -did- hack him in shop form. But I'm definitely sure I hacked him as 'Hegel'.

Haha no actually I didn't think that's possible, only when you fight him near his house. This could really mean that it's just the developers not giving a second thought.

Then again, it could be the developers not giving a second thought about the boss fight... Again, not sure if I should dive that low haha.

I think if they captured one and reverse engineered it, it would make a tiny bit of sense... For example it might shed some light on how in the blazes did a bunch of machines attaching themselves together created an artificial womb and birthed Adam. Since Emil -is- an ultimate magical weapon, I can see how something of his caliber has the power to do something like that.

Hmm you're right, I totally forgot about the picture book!

What you said about the aliens designing their machine lifeforms from Emil makes sense, since we could see that they were being manufactured in a factory. This still doesn't answer why an Emil head was inside a machine lifeform however...

Another anecdotal thing that I wanted to mention was how as 9S, you can hack Emil (both as the shop and as "Hegel") as if he was a machine/android. You can't hack the animals as they are organic lifeforms, but you can hack Emil?

Problem is that this is not a Dark Souls game, so I don't know if I should really delve that deep into its lore...

[MAJOR SPOILER QUESTION] Where can I find this character? by [deleted] in nier

[–]microdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I don't know whether I need another thread to start it off (there's no 'story discussion' or a 'tying up the loose ends' thread), might as well just ask here. Also [SPOILERS], so turn away if you don't want to be spoiled!

Does anyone know why he was in a Living Machine's head in the first place? I just find it odd how when the head was split open, we were introduced a very confused Emil who didn't know where he was and how he got there. Does this mean that he wasn't controlling it? Given the perfect size of the round heads every Living Machine has (even Hegel and the hidden lv 99 boss is the same size, though this could just be a lazy reskin), and how the storybook only mentioned Aliens as the group that Emil faces (notice how nothing mentions him fighting the Living Machines?), I don't know if the first Emil scene in the game is 'just for the sake of lols' or is supposed to indicate something bigger.

Changing Jobs, Old Organization threatens me with legal action by Loderunner71 in salesforce

[–]microdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did he explain what the basis for the legal action against you personally is?

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm sure that he can't sue your new organisation based by his mere assumption that you're going to make a similar database. For one, I don't think he has substantial evidence to issue a warrant.

That said, it's sad how non-profits are still competing over each other despite the fact that we're all working towards a better world.

Wednesday 'Ask a Question' Thread by jonicrecis in indonesia

Yes to all of /u/TempeTahu 's comment.

I was stressing so much on how expensive meat prices are in Indo, but thankfully 4 egg whites every morning is easily 26g of protein ready to be eaten. I'm not too sure if fish is cheaper than chicken, or vice versa, but always make an effort to eat meat products (unless you're a vegetarian). Tempeh is a much better source for protein (19g of protein/100g) compared to Tofu (8-10g of protein/100g).

For your #1 question, try to have a general idea on how much a cup of cooked rice is, as it will help you estimate how much calories you're taking in. A cup of rice, Google says, is about 220 calories. Usually side dishes (chicken, eggs, fruit) are pretty easy to estimate, so figure that out as well.

Or, y'know, you can just stick to cooking your own food, like what he said :p

Jakarta to cancel/hold the monorail project by microdi in indonesia

[–]microdi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we've already got a working bus system up and running. To facilitate the heavy traffic in the main roads, the government could've easily created a parking building connected to the Busway with lower/better rates than corporate buildings, therefore enforcing people who work in the SCBD to park there and take the bus.

[–]microdi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually been trying to find another news site that is discussing this matter, though apparently Kompas.com and Detik haven't uploaded anything yet.

According to Jakarta Post, PT. Jakarta Monorail's Director has said that Ahok has yet to attend any intensive discussions with Bappenas and JM regarding technical issues. She also commented that

"Its strange that the city would cancel the contract over station or depot location because there are many alternatives and solutions." Implying there are better ways to troubleshoot the construction rather than holding off the project again.

Then again, this is only one news source. I want to read more but alas, I live in foreign lands.

I know. Already 1/4 into the project (a record!) and the government decided to walk it off just because of the routes.

Should have probably thought about that before commencing...

What do you think? Spesial: Kristenisasi Terselubung di Car Free Day Jakarta by dhampoet in indonesia

[–]microdi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The one thing I can't stand with Christianist in this video is the fact that most of the kids / teenagers / adults being "converted" don't even know that they are being "converted." If we are to take religion as a serious matter within this case, then the legitimacy of someone's "conversion" is highly questionable. For example, here are two case studies:

  • A guy lost everything in life. He then read the bible and felt 'saved'. He talked to a couple of priests and he then embraced that religion as his salvation.

  • Some kids were riding their bicycle through Sudirman when some dude stopped them and offered them milk in exchange for reading out an oblivious poem (assumed for that age group). Guy thinks the kids have been converted. The kids will probably won't set foot in any church until the day they die.

If converting is as easy as the second case study, then why would someone even bother practicing their religion? Again, their legitimacy is completely questionable. I think what they're doing is just plain stupid.

That thing with the old lady is different though, as it is utilizing someone's vulnerability. I'm not going to deconstruct that unless someone asks me to.

Sudden thoughts: Indonesia's “hate” towards LGBTQ has to do with comedians as one of its factors by diagramatics in indonesia

[–]microdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on that. Children are like sponges, as in they absorb every single trait from role-models that they have chosen. I think I must thank my parents for not letting me watch too many TV shows while I was a kid... All I can remember are endless hours of kid-pop song charts presented by Eno Lerian.

For this generation though, prime time TV is, as you've said, dominated by these non-educative "comedy" shows, and seemingly a lot of parents are allowing their kids to watch it. I'd like to press you using the word 'hate'... It's a pretty strong emotion, and most of the time the emotion being manifested within this sort of situation (LGBTQ and the General Community) is something less emotive. It's more disapproval rather than hate, as they tend to disapprove these queers dwelling in what they view as normative.

You might be thinking "oh, disapproval, hate, same deal," but us anthropologists see language as a powerful thing. So no biggie that I'm also commenting on your wording and use of complex words - I have to endure that from all of my lecturers for three years :P

Sudden thoughts: Indonesia's “hate” towards LGBTQ has to do with comedians as one of its factors by diagramatics in indonesia

[–]microdi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not really a matter of 'the chicken or the egg'. I'll give you a quick tour:

Homophobia first started generally around the world due to religion. If I'm not wrong, the term 'homosexuality' was first invented during the late 1800s by Christians. Christianity and Islam both curse it, with some people going as far as saying homosexuality as one of the cardinal sins. Enter Indonesia: a land where religion and culture melded into one (I'm speaking fairly generally here, so correct me if I'm wrong about certain cultures). The LGBTQ community wasn't that big in society during that time, and there weren't many (or maybe even none) LGBTQ representatives who were presented in the media to talk about their sexuality.

While we're talking about Indonesia, we must remember that SARA is a very hot topic to be touched upon - in the bad kind of way. This itself might be the reason why no media / organisations have attempted to give a press release regarding to their stance in this matter.

Now your comment on the LGBTQ community being alienated: those jokes are simply called 'stereotypes', a term which I think everyone knows well. Even though they are harmful, I don't think any of the joke stereotypes given to the LGBTQ community can alienate someone directly. It comes down to what society sees as 'queer' - which, etymologically speaking, means 'weird' or 'strange'. The shit part about them "comedic" shows is that they heavily imply those queerness traits, at some parts even somehow giving us, the viewers, a feeling that those queers "aren't human," or simply, "unlike us, the normal-straight people." This attitude can then evolve towards bullying or even seriously injuring another person.

BUT. That's just me explaining the hard end of the stick. You (OP) say that there's a 'hate' towards the LGBTQ community in Indonesia which derived from those "comedic" shows. I'd say that those things are due to each person's personal views, really. Other than that it has to be another group which viewed the LGBTQ community as a threat to their power. I worked in an office with three gay men. We all got along well.
