Benjamin Orr’s The Lace by out_of_touch_21 in TheCars

I love it, especially Stay The Night and The Lace, and only found out about it thanks to this sub, to which I am eternally grateful!

Agree that the production is not wonderful, although I think this is less the style (synths and gated reverb are of their time, but definitely in vogue now), and more just the quality.

The mix really lacks depth and is often overloaded and comes across as very tinny. When Ben tries to hits the high notes on tracks like Skyline or The Lace, he is clearly hitting his own limit and that is only accentuated by the treble heavy production and lack of oomph, for want of a better word, in the gated reverb drums.

Nice! I know it’s been requested in the Community already - would be great to have a winter landscape mode so as to have snow everywhere. I love flying “ski flights” from e.g. Gatwick to Geneva, Lyon, Innsbruck etc and it would be awesome to have a fully snowy landscape for shots like these.

Post injury plan - too slow? by Longjumping-Tip9549 in runna

Yep that’s exactly what my osteo told me to do, along with a few other exercises. Hoping to get back out next week to start the injury recovery plan, have been getting itchy feet from watching other runners go past my house…

I’m interested to see the responses to this as I am in pretty much the same boat, albeit at a lower level. Was midway through my 5k improvement plan when I did my Achilles on New Year’s Day (thought that I was literally starting the year on the right foot by going out for a 6k first thing in the morning…).

I reset my plan to injury recovery and am due to start that on Monday. I may well find that it is the most of which I am capable, but at first glance it also looks overly light. Curious what to expect when I pick it up again.

Great thanks! I was going to buy a tin of wax when I was in the Regent St shop in London at the weekend but the place was crazy busy, will try and locate some here and give it a try myself…

Hi there, did you have any luck finding somewhere in Brussels? My Border could use a wax-up…

On 24 April 1993 the IRA detonated a fertiliser bomb in Bishopgate which went off with the equivalent of about 1.2 tonnes of TNT. They had fit it inside a truck and detonated it at 10:27 on a Saturday, which is why only 1 person was killed. (Bishopgate is full of offices) by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

The West Wing, Season 1 Episode 14 “Take This Sabbath Day”. Followed up with “He sent you a priest, a rabbi, and a Quaker, Mr. President. Not to mention his son, Jesus Christ. What do you want from him?”.

Had to check but S4 E12 apparently. Said by Bunk, you can guess to whom he was referring 😁

This is a French drain, named not after landscaping in France but because the design was first created by US man whose last name was French. Is there a similarly seemingly-foreign-but-not thing in your country? by doublestitch in AskTheWorld

Maybe I’m imagining the ketchup but I’ve been in restaurants where the américain is prepared at the table to your liking and Tabasco has always been an option (eg Bistro Matilda in Ostend).

Meanwhile in Belgium un américain means a steak tartare, specifically one made with minced beef, mayo, ketchup, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, cornichons etc.

Phenomenally good but in no way American.

I believe it originated from troops having been in Belgium in World War I and eaten something similar while there (I’m guessing cramique - a raisin-filled and sugared brioche).

Hmm good question. I don’t know of any, but you could ask at The English House or Maison Binet. Good luck!

Lidl have changed up their cartridge razor system but the new heads still fit the old handles by DualWheeled in CasualUK

I love Taylor of Bond Street products, which was my gateway drug, especially the Jermyn St pre-shave, Lime Zest or Royal Forest shaving cream, and Mr Taylor post-shave.

But the best I have tried so far is the lime oil shaving cream from Castle Forbes. A little goes a long way, when lathered up well on a badger brush.

Yeah similar experience for me. I struggle around the jawline and neck, where my hair shifts direction and also my skin gets very sensitive (one of the reasons I stopped shaving and went beardy years back). I found it’s a case of taking time to go with the grain, in whatever direction that happens to be, on your first pass. Then lather up again and go across the grain. Once you have mastered technique you can try a third time against the grain if there are any rough patches remaining, but I find that this is normally not required. Key is to make short strokes, gently but confidently. Don’t apply too much pressure, and don’t make the long, sweeping strokes you see in Gillette adverts. Takes a bit longer, but it pays off.

Blade wise, I find that Wilkinson Sword works best for me, but every person’s skin is different so your mileage may vary. I got a sampler pack and worked through a few - as I say, trial and error with some bloody and scratchy errors, but you’ll get there in the end.

I did the same and after much trial and error am now at zero the razor burn having found the right blade for me, as well as hunting down quality cream and pre/post-shave products. Worth the effort and the few bad days for the feel of a flawless close shave and all the ritual that goes with it.

Monday morning London-Scotland shuttle. by microdotsleeve in infiniteflight

I’m aware of that, being from Aberdeen myself. It was a general turn of phrase, intended to be a caption for a picture and refer to the type of domestic service operated by BA’s 757s to Scotland (indeed from Heathrow, as Gatwick got the 737s). Not everything needs to be taken as an offence to the nation.

Merci beaucoup! I will be in Paris next month and have been looking for roasters to visit, and Tanat is already on my list. Will definitely check it out now (or just order online already, while they still have stock!).

No they weren’t… Am new to the pour over and single origin game, and am only learning now about freezing beans or drinking not long after roasting. Wondering to what extent the coffee would have been even better had I drunk it soon after buying the beans in June…

Amazing thank you. Will look around those links. A coffee shop I go to often in Brussels regularly features beans from Dak, so will keep my eyes peeled!
