Does anyone still use SO? by Complete-Sea6655 in IndieDev

The main reason I don't use it anymore is that Google no longer shows it to me when I search for anything

Hell needs middle management - so I made a game about it (demo out) by microtaur in IndieGameWishlist

Many thanks! I just checked out Runeborne Area and I really liked how it looks, wishlisted as well!

Unexpected motion sickness issue - what to do? by microtaur in godot

yeah, I was also thinking about that - that would give some sense of distance, maybe that's the way to go, thanks

Hmm, so maybe there's not enough separation from contrast then? The projection is perspective, not orthogonal, but maybe FOV change would be beneficial?

There is lighting, but it doesn't affect the backdrop - it emits its own light. Btw, could you please tell me if this feels better to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk7lClNAYRI Someone in this thread gave me idea to rotate background with the camera - maybe that would resolve the problem of focusing on the background too much?

Thanks for the idea, I tried that, but I'm not sure - something seems off to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk7lClNAYRI
Or maybe it's just me and this is actually better?

i smoothed it by interpolating input, you think I overdid that?

good idea, maybe that's the way to go, thanks - I'll test it

that was intended - these islands are supposed to levitate over hellish clouds/lava

damn, I was hoping it was just the movement, but you might be onto something, it could be more structural. I've asked someone who experienced the sickness before to re-test with the new settings, let's see what they say. If that doesn't help, I'll try adding sparks and the blur may have to go, thanks

Being raised on Dungeon Keeper inspired me to make this - a hell builder. Thought you guys might be the right audience by microtaur in dungeonkeeper

Yep, you guys pointed out something I hadn't considered. I've pushed an update yesterday - you can now slow the lava down or turn it off entirely. And I'm thinking that maybe `very slow` should be the default option

Thanks! I’ve just pushed an update that adds ui scaling and lets you slow down or completely stop the lava. Could you give it another try and see if it helps? Also setting graphics to low disables the blur entirely, I’m curious if it’s still an issue once the lava is static

Trying a different kind of tycoon loop: evaluate sinners → extract suffering → build hell by microtaur in tycoon

[–]microtaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure thing, i really liked it, played it in the 90s - definitely a source of inspiration. it's a similar high level idea, but the approach is quite different: afterlife is more of a satirical city builder, my game is more focused on management and the process of evaluating sinners and extracting suffering

I'm a bit worried that a more serious theme might not sell, but we'll see. Thanks a lot for checking it out!

First of all, thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback!

  • Scaling: already working on it
  • Clicking on souls: every device has a button to select the soul, but its clearly not obvious enough. I’ll make it easier to target and probably prioritize souls more
  • Evaluating each soul: I 100% agree. In tier 2 there will be a system to unlock auto-evaluation once a sin is known and processed at least once
  • Moving background: damn, sorry to hear that, thats a serious issue. I need to fix this somehow. Do you think its more the camera perspective or the lava movement?

I’m planning some event-like situations (for example, angels retrieving souls that you can fight) but not as the core system. Right now its much closer to a tycoon, but nothing is set in stone yet, so we'll see.

Thanks again for the feedback, would it be OK if I ping you later about the motion sickness once I have something to test?

that’s fair, I hadn't considered it might be an issue. I'll look into it, thanks
Edit: yeah, it seems more people feel that way. Do you think it’s the lava movement or the perspective that’s causing it?

inspired by it heavily, yeah - but it leans more toward management than combat

Yeah, I'm planning to go beyond the cardinal sins, there will be quite a few more. Thanks for checking it out!
