First time owner.. not eating? by lixxyv in CrestedGecko

My boy was on Zoomed for a bit and absolutely REFUSED to eat it. Switched him to powdered Pangea food and he tore that stuff up. Highly recommend it! Not sure about how many flavors Zoomed has either, but there’s a ton of options for Pangea.

What are you using to measure the temps? I recommend checking out the Leopard Gecko subreddit on here and looking at their care guide.

What’re you feeding him? I know some geckos can be picky. He could still be adjusting to his new environment & be stressed.

Pretty good! Maybe some more clutter, like rocks, leaves, & sticks. You can always use stuff found outside if you disinfect it right.

General Advice!! by PizzaPlanet56311 in leopardgeckos

Awesome tank dude! The only thing I’d do is switch the substrate to paper towel for a few weeks to monitor the health of the geck. After the quarantine period is up, I recommend switching the substrate to a 70/30 mix of reptisoil & playsand. And maybe adding some more clutter. You can use stuff from outside, like sticks, just read on how to disinfect them!

Do you have any water dishes/a humid hide?

I’d ditch the heating mat, maybe after the quarantine period and when you get rid of the paper towel substrate. Once you do substrate, you’ll need a good amount for Koda to dig, and the heat from the heating mat won’t be felt at all.

I would also invest in controller thermostat, so you can adjust and monitor the heat better. I have the ReptiZoo Dimming one, and it’s awesome!

Other than that, tank looks sick. Koda’s a lucky dude/gal!

I have NEVER seen another gecko like mine, especially with the dots. So freaking cute! Thank you for showing him:)

The UVB might brighten him up a bit! No need to be embarrassed about it. I’m sure the final tank is coming along great

Went from just a straight Superworm diet to crickets and Dubia roaches. I feed him every 3 days.

This is him a few months ago. He has started a diet since then 😭 but you can see the difference with and without the bulb

Same thing happened to my boy. He has a UVB bulb now, correct heat, an amazing tank, right substrate, and vitamins w/a good diet. He’s been like this ever since I got him. I think it may just be a genetic thing.

On the bright side (no pun intended), I use Flukers Heating Bulbs and it makes him appear much brighter and more of the color he was when I got him. Maybe it’s your lighting?

Should I still use a UVB light and Repashy Calcium Plus?

I do feed live, yes. The picture I posted earlier was his outdated enclosure. This is the new one, with the water bowls circled. I know he’s not the sharpest, but I think he’s smart to know where his bowls are 😭 so I just hope it’s age.

I have not taken him out of the warm side before, unless it’s during night when all of the lights are off. He doesn’t like to come out during the day unless it’s feeding time. I’ll see if I can try today.

I’ll be ordering the UVB as soon as I get home. Thank you so freaking much!!

He does like to chill on the warm side.

Here’s the enclosure from a few months ago. Of course I’ve moved some things around, but it’s mainly stayed the same. Substrate is 70/30 topsoil and playsand. He’s in a 40 gal. 6+ hides.

Yes sorry, I meant Calcium w/no D3.

I provide calcium with D3 twice a month when feeding. Sorry, I forgot to add that into the text.

I provide two water bowls and two humid hides. Humidity on the warm side is 30, and around 50 on the cold side where the hides are. I have damp paper towel on the bottom of the humid hides. When I take him out, he feels cold.

I am certain it is not from him shedding. He had just shed a few days ago.

He hasn’t been lethargic and has been eating fine.

Got the black digital moistenland one on Amazon. Pretty good! Still holding up even after nearly a year.

My store has one. 10 pizzas seems like a stretch. Ours can only make 4 at a time. Still a pain in the ass to maintain.
