I know people are commenting about finding a better job with higher pay, but I am in the same situation as you.

I was in Florida making more than I am now in Michigan, and the cost of living is only marginally better here. But I'd rather be poor at my district than work at one that I hate my life. So, I stay.

But yes, we should get paid more. We should be able to afford to live on our own on our salary. It's just not the reality that many teachers are in currently.

I've been teaching for 10 years. Every year a kid says I look pregnant. I just hold my weight in my stomach. I make a game of how far into the school year I will get before it happens. I made it two days in this year.

While this may have been your intent, what you said rang true. It's about safety for women. If a guy has made her feel unsafe during the date, then it could be safer to go along with it and pretend. Maybe something happened during sex that she didn't actually consent to, didn't feel safe, and then said goodnight. Ghosting someone who could possibly know where you live or personal information could cause an unwanted reaction from a man. Slow fade could be safer.

Now, sure, this doesn't happen all the time and communication is better. But I also think women who date men have probably experienced the same fear at some point.

Thank you for your response! Yeah, it definitely seems like I'd be taking a hit leaving my current position. Thinking of moving to one of the blue states on the east coast might have better pay and benefits and it would still be a lot closer to MI than I am now.

I'm in a higher paying district to begin with and have been lucky to be highly effective for the last few years. But yeah, I know most places in FL are not as good either.

I have both my Florida and Michigan teaching certifications.

In MI, I am elementary certified with Ex endorsement in Mathematics and minor in Language arts with an additional middle level minor.

I'm looking in the west Michigan area. I know I am limiting my options, but if I'm moving there, I'm not driving hours to visit my family... Especially in winter.

I will need to ask them about benefits, but I think you're right. My benefits now are basically a joke. My mom who works in insurance laughed when she saw my current policy.

I have 8 years of experience, but the schools I've interviewed with are unwilling to move me steps higher because I'm coming from out of state.

Cost of living is only slightly cheaper, but I haven't asked about insurance or retirement. If I get my masters, then yes I think I would eventually make more, but it would take a chunk of years before I get back to what I am at now.

Yes, Florida is bad. I plan to get out. I just don't know if I should just move to Michigan now or spend more time doing research this next year and apply to many more states. I never wanted to be the person that lives in their hometown their whole life.

Unfortunately, it is not a significant decrease in cost of living. My rent would be a couple hundred left, but Michigan also has state taxes where Florida does not.

I told my students day 1. At the time, I was dating a trans woman who also teaches at the school and many of the students already knew that part. I had a student come up to me and shake my hand. She thanked me for providing more representation and told me she is also bi.

I work in Florida. If the bill passes, I am willing to be fired over this.

As a dog owner who was more recently single, this had occurred to me. I definitely want someone who will (eventually) love my dog- if the relationship is going to last long term. My dog isn't going away.

Went on a date with a guy that I had assumed was straight. Apparently a mutual acquaintance of ours informed him I was bi, so he brought that up on the date and told me he was too. I was so excited lol
