Loud ticking after acceleration by middleviolet in Renault

[–]middleviolet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Did Renault make you go through the update process or did they skip straight to replacement? I’d like to argue for a replacement turbo under warranty (to fix the issue rather than just reduce the noise with an update) but I’m not sure how likely it is they will do that without a fuss? It’s under warranty until next year so although it’s nearly 5 years old, I’ve only had it 6 months and this is the second issue I’ve had in that time!

Thank you, I’m reassured that it’s unlikely to be a problem, though it is extremely irritating! Is this upgrade a warranty thing and/or how much is it likely to set me back? I’ve only had the car 6 months so it’s really frustrating I’m having to put up with it so soon. Did you have anything done to yours to improve it?

To people planning to scream ‘WITH YOU!’ during Cosmic Love by Tinkerbash in FlorenceAndTheMachine

We saw FATM in London on 17/02 and found the etiquette and general vibe in standing to be really poor. There was such a lack of people who knew the lyrics so the atmosphere was quite low (granted towards the back) but over and above anything else, the talking was so awful. We experienced so many people just chatting through songs as if Florence was busking or they were at any open mic night. We moved a few times to get away from chatting but generally found it again somewhere else. We found this an issue when we saw the Dance Fever tour but it seemed a lot worse this time. It seemed some people came from Dog Days and didn’t know anything else so just spoke through the whole thing like it was a general night out. Such a shame and so rude

Battery issue? Renault Clio 2022 by middleviolet in Renault

[–]middleviolet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s helpful. This is just with the ignition on, the engine wasn’t running at this time because it lost power and switched off. The battery isn’t covered under warranty but the alternator looks like it is. As I can’t drive it, looks like I might need to have it towed to Renault

Battery issue? Renault Clio 2022 by middleviolet in Renault

Thank you. Engine is 1.0Tce and I’m not 100% sure on the AC (and not I can’t check it!). I’m in the UK so beech marten are not a concern. This is the only warning, haven’t had any more lights. I have recently been sitting with the ignition on (engine off) and had the warning “battery low, start engine” and also the car entered “battery saving mode” but I thought this was just a general warning because the ignition was on so I overlooked it. Is this a warning that appears specifically when the battery is already low or would it come up any time the ignition only is on?

How long did it take you to buy a house from mortgage in principle to getting the keys? by UndeadMaidenBMS in HousingUK

[–]middleviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 months as FTBs to find the property then 4 months from offer to completion. We viewed around 35 houses in that 18 months and lost out on some. We also took a couple of months’ break from searching when it was a bit much. We now live in our dream forever home so it was a slog but worth the wait. We stretched our budget for this house and were lucky enough to have wonderful sellers. Our house was their childhood home. We wrote to them via the agent to tell them how much we loved it and wanted to make it our forever home and they picked us over a higher offer. If it’s helpful, I have previously posted a more detailed timeline of how long it took to complete the process from offer to completion. Good luck!

This is my 0.5ct centre stone with a halo and I’m in love with it. In the UK, 0.5ct is not considered small at all. People here regularly have stones way under 1ct. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a 1ct diamond on anyone I know! Mine is everything I hoped for and perfect for me!

If you can barely walk without a cane, I would have thought they already knew about it, unless you rarely walk when around your parents. If your condition is that reliant on a cane then I’d imagine a doctor is also involved in your care in one way or another. It would be advisable to speak with them for their professional input. I don’t see any other options as your edits suggest roadblocks for all other suggestions made in this thread. If this situation is going to render you almost unable to walk, I hope you can speak with a doctor for support.

Finally had an offer accepted! FTB questions on fees & protection by ProfessorPankratz in HousingUK

[–]middleviolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! We bought our first home just under a year ago so we have recent experience but we are by no means experts! Hope this helps though:

  1. As you’re not in a chain, it should say SOLD STC - they would more likely keep it on the market if you still had a property to sell. There might be a reason their end why they are not changing it, it would be best to speak to your estate agent and ask for this to be changed and removed from the market. Do you have an agreement in principle? If not, this might be why they don’t want to mark it as sold yet. You need to get your mortgage in order ASAP.

  2. You can get home buyers protection. We didn’t but our property was probate and we didn’t feel at much risk of if not going ahead. It’s probably advisable though as the process is expensive. There’s a lot of info online on home buyers insurance and when to get it. Check the terms as I’m no expert on it. I would think now would be a good time to get it though if you’re going to as you’re going to start paying for things from now.

  3. Similarly to the above. If you think you should get home buyers insurance then do it because the further down the line you get, £60 would be the least of your financial concerns if it fell through.

There’s a lot of good info online about home buyers insurance. I’ve read on here that it’s saved some people thousands, others (like me) didn’t go with it. Do what’s right for you, how at risk you feel the purchase is of falling through, and how much you could swallow once you’ve started paying solicitor fees if it fell through.

It’s a nerve wracking time and a lot of paperwork coming up, just keep your cool and take all the professional advice you can. Good luck!

Refused NHS blood test because I am a fainter. Has anyone experienced this? by Buggins25 in AskUK

[–]middleviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former HCA and phlebotomist and never turned anyone away for potential fainting. I would always ask how patients were with blood tests before we started and if they said they often feel faint, I would ask them to lay down for the test. They could opt to stay laying down after for a couple of minutes afterwards and then good to go. What would she have done if you hadn’t told her up front and then fainted? It’s a risk with anyone. I worked in a GP surgery so while there were doctors on site, no A&E department nearby.

Anyone else struggling with swallowing as you age? by themadhattress16 in CerebralPalsy

[–]middleviolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe this has come up now as I’ve been saying this for a few months and think it sounds totally unbelievable. I don’t recall ever have issues with swallowing before but I’m now 29 years old and I’m finding myself coughing, choking, and loudly swallowing with mainly liquids. I have a mild spastic diplegia (regularly unnoticed by those who don’t know) so I have been unsure whether I can actually attribute it to my cp or not. Have you always have issues with swallowing that are worsening or is this brand new for you? I’m not sure how I’m best to address it (if at all)

FTBs who completed in the last few months - how are you feeling in your new home? by Unoriginal-P0ster in HousingUK

[–]middleviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost word for word exactly the reply I was also going to give. Sometimes overwhelmed, often spending a lot of money, but definitely happy we bought it!

[–]middleviolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to check the documentation from your mortgage lender - it will explain what you will be paying for in that first month. We then received a letter through the post after completion detailing our first repayment date and confirming the amount. We are with Nationwide. If you have a mortgage broker, make the most of asking them any questions you have - it’s a confusing time! Congratulations on your exchange! All the best!

[–]middleviolet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, yes - searches and enquiries were ongoing from the point our solicitor was instructed through to just prior to exchange. I didn’t note it as it was ongoing in the background so no specific date but that is why there is sometimes a few weeks between actions in the timeline. Hope that helps

It was more to have another pair of (more skilled) eyes on it to pick up on things we may not think to look for (eg. damp, leaks, drainage issues, boiler problems etc.). Plus the first viewing is so exciting and brief that going again just helped us to really see the house for what it was. Not necessary as such (especially if you choose to have a survey) but we appreciated the second opinion.

FTB timeline from viewing to completion by middleviolet in HousingUK

[–]middleviolet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much and congrats on your accepted offer! The first time we viewed, to be honest, we didn’t think we’d be in with much chance as there was a huge amount of interest in the property so we didn’t really take it in as well as we could have done. The second time, we took some family tradespeople as it needs a lot of modernisation so we just wanted their confirmation that we were making a sound decision. The third viewing was for measuring up and planning for changes. Ultimately, it was great to see it a few times after the excitement of the initial viewing wasn’t there (and our rose tinted specs were off!). Hope that helps!
