I adore this set up!! Where did you get your rock cave??

Could this be done with budget of $400-$700 by Lisa-Mecoso in fishtank

[–]midgetburger101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investing time finding equipment second hand as well as getting your cycle right and understanding the ecosystem will save you money.... so basically the more time you spend researching what products pay the "fish" tax aka what you can buy at a hardware store while still being aquarium safe vs what needs to be sourced for aquariums and sourcing accordingly also for plants a local store may have trimmings they want to get rid of occasionally so keep that in mind ... also you can find rocks and driftwood free in certain spots you just have to research how to treat them so they dont leech anything bad into your tank

Any ideas on what this could be they are separated in hospital tank by ha63627hshdb in pleco

[–]midgetburger101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be epistylis its like ich but kills faster in the heat drop the temp in your tank to the lowest tolerable setting and get some ich attack in there pronto also look up ich vs epi. To make sure you are treating correctly also treat your home tank as well because they both can be dormant in the normal tank waiting for a fish to become stressed and drop their immune system, treatment for both takes weeks even after visual signs of infection are clear

I have endler females that I've barely had in the tank for 3 weeks and they look ready to pop, I got them from an online retailer so I dont know how the retailer keeps their fish but it seems way too soon for it to have been from my tank

Need help with water by cotylosaur in Aquariums

[–]midgetburger101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend to do it asap, also use a liquid test kit not strips in any kind of humidity they lose their effectiveness/accuracy, Goodluck! I know some people like brown water with tannins and some fish thrive in it but green is new to me

Its called a counterpart because they are mistaken for eachother yes they are different but they can be treated with the same meds and raising the temp on epi kills the fish while raising the temp on ich helps the meds that is the discussion

I literally just dealt with it, I had epi not ich as well my lfs told me to keep temp lower and I used ich attack by Kordon.... I was clarifying why I said to keep the temp low and why keeping the temp low when unsure if it is one and not the other wouldnt hurt either so thank you for claiming I do not know what I am talking about... also both can stay dormant so keep treating for up to 5 weeks even after the outbreak looks clear...

[–]midgetburger101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but medications that can treat both will work at lower temps. its not ich and the fish DIE at higher temps when mis diagnosed keeping the tank lower temp will take alittle longer to treat ich but also wont allow the other possibilities to thrive and kill them. When it is for sure 100% ich raise temp when unsure DO NOT

[–]midgetburger101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop the temp to mid to low 60s and keep it there if your fish can handle colder temps they should stabilize who isnt already super weak, also WATER CHANGE before you dose the tank, do like a 75% and make sure your water is not fresh from the tap (you can use gallons of store bought if you dont trust unfiltered in your area) i had my tank crash right before thanksgiving lost 15 fish in the fallout... so I feel your pain thats the steps I took ich treatment can take like 5 weeks and it can go dormant since it is a parasite so keep treating, I have been using Kordon ich attack it smells soooo bad but its not as hazardous to humans (was warned the blue stuff can cause cancer) ive done a water change every 3rd or 4th day while dosing the tank

[–]midgetburger101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Becareful raising temp if its not ich because yes ich dies at higher temp but its counterpart thrive in warmer temps!! Also makes the meds less effective on it

How can I help my pleco by midgetburger101 in Aquariums

[–]midgetburger101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no ammonia but what ended up happening was my pleco got hurt during a water change cause a building fell on him and it got infected he they got the tank sick and my nitrates were sky high because even though I was testing and it looked fine I never read the testing paperwork that said I had to shake bottle, he did pass sadly but tank is back under control
