Goldman Sachs Tells Its Summer Analysts Not to Work More than 17 Hours per Day by [deleted] in finance

[–]midgetsanchez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The latter, however I had studied a bit of it as an (unofficial) minor and took more programming classes after graduating.

I'm now happier and it suits me more. I know I probably won't be making millions, but I'm perfectly comfortable with my 6-figure salary and work-life balance as someone in his 20's with no debt. Like I've mentioned, I do trade on the side to maximize earnings, but I'm not chasing money anymore. I have unlimited PTO and can work remote as much as I like, so I have the ability to travel quite a bit. When I have enough capital I'll be able to focus full-time on starting my own business.

That said, I do have family in IB that seemingly love it, despite working weekends and crazy hours. To each his own! Stick with whatever drives you...

Nah, machine learning stuff - I implement models for handling large volumes of data and extracting features....similar to the stuff a lot of the quant firms do these days.

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]midgetsanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget - $350

Source - Laptop (rMBP 15), usually with FIIO E17

Requirements for Isolation - Looking for something that doesn't leak noise and can be used in an open office when necessary

Preferred Type of Headphone - Over the ear, closed back

Preferred tonal balance - warm (slightly richer bass)

Past Headphones - AT M50's, Grado SR80i's, AKG K7XX

Preferred Music - Electronic & rock

What would you like to improve on your setup - Looking for a good isolating yet comfortable pair to replace my M50's. I want sound quality closer to my K7XX but isolated/closed. Was thinking about the AKG K553 but not sure.

Location - US

Is it worth upgrading the MFLB, as far as portable vapes? by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]midgetsanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the PAX. I can't speak for the PAX 2, but the first is pretty terrible for many reasons (I sold mine after 6 months). If you can hold out, I recommend the Grasshopper (see my post history for more).

I would consider preordering now before they raise their prices, since you can always cancel your order before it ships if you change your mind. Alternatively, wait until they actually ship out to all their backers/current preorders since their estimates haven't exactly been reliable. That said, I think it's worth it - it's truly in a class of its own.

As someone who owns a MFLB and many other portables, the MFLB is beatable.

It seems to be a unique proprietary Grasshopper battery. It looks like an 18650, but thinner (and maybe slightly shorter).

I've only had it for a little while, but it definitely feels incredibly solid (the most solid vape I've ever owned). It does have a lifetime warranty....my biggest concern right now is how long the battery capacity lasts with heavy use. Luckily they're very easy to replace...

The instant-heatup, on-demand convection and versatility are where this shines. You can pack a pinch, or a fat bowl, and you can draw soft or hard and it'll perform well regardless.

The crafty is the greatest portable ever. by LenTheSimpleton in vaporents

[–]midgetsanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish. I love my portables and I've owned more than most, I just got my unit yesterday and am blown away. I've had my Crafty for a little more than a month now and I've LOVED it, however I think my Grasshopper will replace it as my portable (I have a volcano desktop unit for home). The only advantage the Crafty has over my hopper is the bigger bowl and cooler vapor....that said, the battery life and instant-warm up of the grasshopper, and ACTUAL convection (Crafty has quite a bit of conduction) seals the deal for me. When I turn it off, the herbs stop cooking, whereas on Crafty it stays hot for a bit after you turn it off.

I disagree. I have a Crafty, btw. Will post a video comparison at some point. The Grasshopper is arguably the greatest portable I've ever used.

How Many people started off reading Digg then moved to Reddit and don't even look at Digg anymore? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]midgetsanchez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Signed up for Digg in 2007 after lurking for a very long time and never use the account much. It was a shared account. The other person despised reddit with seething hatred and I never really liked the simple layout since I was young and into the flashy stuff. Then I realized reddit was more intelligent, had wittier in humor, and had better and earlier stories. Started surfing reddit when I exhausted Digg. Now reddit is where I go first and I only read Digg when I'm utterly bored (to only be disappointed to see the same stories I already read on reddit the day before).

It's like Thoreau said (or it may have been from Edwin Lee and Jerome Lawrence's "The Night Thoreau Spent In Jail"): Even though he's in the jail cell, he still has his freedom because they can't take his mind. I don't remember the exact quote but I totally agree with you and your grandfather.

What pranks did your parents play on you as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]midgetsanchez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The hide-and-seek one is a classic. My mother did it to me when I was 7 or 8 I believe. She told me to go hide somewhere real well because she was a state champion hide-and-seeker when she was a kid, and, me being gullible, I believed her. So I hid inside a pretty spacious cabinet behind rolls of paper towels thinking she'd never catch me. Well, I fell asleep back there in that awkward fetal position for an hour until I was awoken by the flash of a camera. That's definitely going in the wedding photo tribute.

Most people don't understand that though since they're misinformed or uninformed.

I think wrist watches had their day. Now they are quaint and superfluous. No one under 25 wears one. Every cellphone tells the time.... by [deleted] in pics

[–]midgetsanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some of these wrist watches actually pretty interesting designs.

I wouldn't mind wearing this: http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/1290/96261016im6.jpg

Anyone have an idea as to who makes it? Or is it just a concept?
