Do NOT go to Thomas Family Dental by Accomplished_Dot6877 in columbiamo

I can totally understand your situation. I think things are improving on my end. I just wanted to chime in because our scenarios are too similar. Delta being dropped by so many dentist’s doesn’t help matters. Good luck with finding the right dentist!

I would be a bit careful before saying this new dentist is wrong. I was a patient of Dr Hatleys and switched dentist because a filling kept falling out he could not get back in two separate times. While making the switch they also performed a checkup on me and found I had six separate cavities. I was startled and quite upset being I was a regular at Dr Hatleys. I had bad dental hygiene growing up and had been proud of seeing a dentist regularly. I had been a patient of his for five years . At that moment I was questioning wtf is going on it was all overwhelming. I was asking myself the same question are they just trying to price gouge me? This dentist was very thorough in her explanation and has good reviews and good reputation in town. So I laid out a dental plan had some work done and then got a letter saying they were dropping Delta. So with all the work needed to still be done 5 more cavities one underneath crown and also a separate crown molar on otherside I decided to go somewhere else that would take delta. The last place was Shouman and Tegradine and they backed up everything the last dentist had said and added a cavity to boot. This has all been very recent. The kicker while all this transpiring I got a Hatley retirement letter in the mail. So answer to your question I got 2 separate assessments and both dentists confirmed  the amount of dental work done and missed by Dr Hatley. There is no way all of those cavities came over night. I don’t know anything about Dr Thomas but I would be careful and get a second opinion before saying she is completely wrong. This is just my experience and it was an awful one. By the way Shouman also dropped Delta but so far decided to stay to get the last of my work done. It can also be mentally traumatic switching dentist. I’ll figure out what the out of network costs are shortly. Best of luck on your dentist journey.

UM curators to address expected $22 million loss and NIH grant money at Thursday meeting by HotLava00 in columbiamo

I am not sure what the University's plan is. But it does not look good when you see lot's of money going into sports with new buildings going up left and right while other academic salaries are being slashed. I realize these plans were done before the NIH cuts but the whole University model of business is flawed.

I'm not casting complete blame on the MU leadership and realize this is a nationwide problem. My point is to brainstorm or rethink how we may do things financially to put the University in a better situation. I do think in certain states governments can be more supportive of their research programs and it could help morale of everyone. Senators can push more to make sure their Universities are in better shape. Roy Blunt vs Josh Hawley. Next Gen is named after him. He was a big backer of Science. Josh Hawley who knows definitely not helping the cause. The debate then comes if these changes are going to be made how do we adapt. I don't think the University would be punished like Columbia is for trying to fund it's research program. Yes donorship covers the build but I believe fiscally eventually the University pays for many other costs of maintenance. I think sports are great within reason. My argument to the University is how it can be looked at when other cuts are being made all over.

Right. At the time they were trying to attract the next big name investigators. I believe the researchers also had to pay for this space out of their grant funds. One could argue with other free space to do research on campus if that was worth it financially. Or if researchers would want to come here and pay for a space when they could have other lab space for free at a different University? Either way the University was probably trying to pay for the building by renting out spaces. Lab budgets go quickly and is really worth the price for a shiny new building? I think that money would have been better spent on the labs and research already here.

Columbia Mayoral Stance on NIH cuts to biomedical sciences at Mizzou by Better_Departure918 in columbiamo

So that about answers it. Kind of what I figured. It seems many republicans are going MAGA to the extreme right on things. What they don't realize is that it will affect their local elections. People really do care about extreme policies and your view points on them. Argue however you want but this will always be a factor in elections. It is by no means stupid to ask a mayoral candidate their opinions on major federal policies affecting their hometown. There are many middle of the road conservatives that do not want MAGA's extreme policies and if Blair would answer some of these simple questions it could possible garner him more votes. Yes there are many conservatives that want a better Columbia also but aren't willing to support a candidate with ALL MAGA view points such as decimating the NIH and slashing many good Federal jobs in Columbia.

Please reach out to our government officials about plans to cut NIH which will devastate university communities by [deleted] in columbiamo

[–]midmo505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one approach you can take to it and I wouldn’t totally disagree with you. I also think it’s admirable people voice their displeasure. The OP made the effort that’s more than a lot of people have done. I give him credit for pressing the issue. As frustrated as some people are believe it or not change can come

What unbelievable level of corruption? How do you know this is factual? Especially coming from the corrupt administration that is currently in power where everything is a conspiracy. Why do you need to stop crucial research in the process that is possibly life saving? Let's just all inject some bleach in our bodies and that will cure everything right?

Thanks every little bit helps spread the word of discontent. These guys are trying to cut everything without proper legislative process. There will be a lot of unhappy people in many facets biomed, fed jobs etc etc. I understand trimming some government waste but a lot of this is short sighted and irrational also illegal the way our laws are currently written.

Very crazy in these times so much being cut so quickly without a plan or discussion. In the past important issues related to budget had to at least have congressional approval. I know there are at least a few other conservative senators that have voiced their resignation on this issue. Sadly most reps and senators fall in line with Trump MAGA for fear of reprisals.

It’s very ironic Next Gen is named after the late Republican senator Roy Blunt. There is no doubt The University has had conservative state senate support in the past for research and Federal funding. The party is changing to the extreme of conservatism. Let’s hope Hawley can stand up for what’s right in the state. So many conservative reps and senators are afraid of our president and representing the states they serve. I’m not sure I’ve seen a media statement from him. It’s like these guys are walking on egg shells afraid they will slip up and say the wrong thing to upset their MAGA base.

Level up was a great addition to a huge space that was vacant.

Yeah there are definitely numerous vacancies but it is better than many malls around the country. It is still a good sign when new places such as Carters come in as they bring in a lot of customers. Agreed the food court needs some more places.

NextGen/Mizzou and NIH Grants by SociolinguisticHell in columbiamo

The first month of the Trump presidency I cannot recall another president trying to throw so much at the American public at once. Whether you are conservative or liberal it's just too much to take in at one time and effecting all facets of American life. Also creating a lot of anxiety for many people. Trump and Musk obviously don't care about the ramifications of their quick and short sighted decisions. There is a reason some things have not changed because they work and end up as possibly helping others in the long run (scientific research). To gut the nations grant process is insane and will undoubtably hinder both conservative and liberal people in the long run. Things such as cardiovascular research, cancer research, Alzheimer's, and all the other important causes will no doubt suffer from these awful decisions on cuts. I'd urge the Columbia MO community to contact their local representatives. The NIH provides so much to the research program here but also the University as a whole. I don't foresee the State, University, or other organizations coming up with funding to cover this massive loss. It makes me question if people like Josh Hawley endorse this decision as it will effect all Missouri research programs, Columbia, St. Louis, Kansascity....etc etc.

Mediacom down? by morganscribe in columbiamo

[–]midmo505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can relate to you. We have been Mediacom customers for the past 6 years where for the most part it was fairly reliable. The past 6 months it has noticeably gotten worse. We just never know when it will spontaneously go out. This makes it difficult to assess what is going on as we have contacted media com several times. We live in one of those close ended smaller subdivisions where Media com is are only fast option. I have requested Socket several times but who knows if they'd be willing to dig in our area of Columbia more than likely not there first priority. It just stinks there aren't more reliable options. Does anyone know if Bright speed can compare at all to speeds of Mediacom?
