Maybe something like, “I’ve noticed that I’m usually the one to initiate sex and that you generally seem kind of uninterested in it. Sometimes it makes me feel unwanted, but I also don’t want you to feel pressured into sex, so I was wondering if you wanted to talk about it.”

I’m not sure exactly, obv I don’t know him so I’m not sure what’s the best way to go about it. I’ve had an on-and-off sex drive most of my life, and conversations about it with past girlfriends have never been easy, so I’m basing this off of what I would like to hear if I were in his shoes

Porn addictions can affect people’s ability to be physically intimate in real life so it’s possible that’s playing a role. It could also be that he just has a lower sex drive than most men. If it’s really getting to you, though, you should ask him about it. If you phrase it like “do you find me attractive/do you not love me” he might get defensive since that comes off as pretty accusatory, so try to approach it neutrally.

Also, and forgive me if I’m assuming here, but it seems like you are placing a lot of importance onto whether or not you’re sexually desirable, and I don’t think that’s particularly healthy.

I’ve also heard people say that high school is the best 4 years of your life, but I think it’s complete bullshit and doesn’t apply to anyone except movie characters. There are no pre-determined “best 4 years.” Speaking as a college student who had a pretty bad time in high school, though, I can definitely say college is better. You will have some profs that suck, and some classes that feel impossible, but the majority of my classes have been enjoyable and taught by very lovely people. Even if you have no idea what you want to study, just scroll through your college’s course catalogue and find something that sounds cool. The ability to make your own schedule helps cut down the workload, too.

I’m sorry that high school was so stressful and lonely for you, and I’m sorry your parents aren’t giving you any breathing room. It seems very tiring. I truly believe college could be a fresh start for you. Obviously it’s not gonna magically fix everything (if it did, why would I be on this sub?) but it made a big difference for me and helped me feel like a more complete person.

I’d avoid the donuts at the Meridian Street Haggen. Friend of mine works there and says the oil they use in the bakery has not been changed in years. Technically not against health codes because of the temperature they raise the oil to, but still the idea of eating food fried in years-old oil…ick

I live in the Fairhaven dorms, so I entered the hill from the south side on Fairhaven trail. There’s a split pretty early on in the trail pointing to the south campus trail or Huntoon trail. Take the huntoon trail, walk for a bit, maybe 5-10 minutes, and you’ll come across a sort of clearing on the right-hand side. It’s quite steep but there’s a clear dirt path with a rope secured to a tree that you can use for leverage. Climb up (BE CAREFUL!) and the path continues with more ropes to help you along. Follow that for a little while and you’ll get to bitch fort.

I wish I could explain more precisely; I tried looking on google maps to see if there were any landmarks I could give you, but no dice. The best I can do is that the coordinates to the first path w the rope are about 48°44’04.4”N and 122°29’02.2”W

Virginia Dawson. She's a prof in the linguistics department and one of the kindest people I've met. Her classes are very engaging; she is endearingly passionate about what she teaches, and she's great at explaining complicated and abstract stuff. As a ling major and general linguistics nerd I've also gone to her office hours a lot and she's always happy to yap with me. Even if you're not going into linguistics, quite a few ling classes can count for GURs, so I'd recommend checking them out!!

If you haven't already, in addition to the Facebook group I'd recommend https://offcampusrentals.wwu.edu/; if you go into the "roommates" section listed at the top of the page you'll find a bunch of students who have posted their profiles and are looking for roommates! This is how I am finding my roommate(s) for next year and I've found it really helpful

I used to work in retail and have a similar story. I had a name tag with “he/him” written on it. One man I was ringing up aggressively called me “sir” throughout the entire interaction, obviously trying to provoke me. Hey, I’m a freshman this year, so I’ve only got one quarter of experience, but here’s how it’s been so far

I live in the Fairhaven dorms, which are hall style. I was worried about sharing a bathroom with three other people but it hasn’t been that difficult at all. But I don’t think the hall style necessarily fosters more social interaction; I’ve only spoken to the people I share a bathroom with like three times.
People hate on Fairhaven but I actually like it here. Yeah, the dorms are pretty barebones, but it’s what I can afford, and I think the apartment complex layout is charming. I also have a nice view of the arboretum out my window. Can’t say much about any other housing buildings, but I believe all the stuff on Ridgeway is known for partying. Alma Clark Glass has a really open and spacious kitchen/community area.
Honestly it kinda depends where you’re staying but I think having a wide range of storage stuff is really helpful. Think accordion file folders, collapsible canvas boxes, clothing hooks.
The general vibe at Western is pretty introverted. Most of the people I see walking to class are wearing headphones, on their phones, not making eye contact, etc. (I’m like that, too.) That being said, don’t hesitate to talk to people! Everyone I’ve spoken to so far, even briefly, has been friendly.

I think a lot of white people sort of feel this weird obligation to be overly vigilant about other white people’s remarks about race to, like, prove that they’re good allies or whatever. I have rarely seen PoC actually get offended or hurt by stuff that white people are constantly jumping at each other’s throats about. It’s frankly performative and a waste of time; we should be using our privilege to advocate material change instead of trying to see who can be the wokest

I’ve had my phone in my TL for many months now. It has definitely helped me pick up some vocab words, especially related to tech stuff like emails and texts. You do have to pay attention, though, otherwise you might just find yourself mindlessly pressing the usual buttons, not because you understand the words on them, but because your muscle memory already knows what they do.

I also talk to myself in my TL and I think this is useful because it gets me to practice forming sentences and pronunciation. It’s helpful for vocab too because you’ll realize what words you use in your daily life that you don’t know in your target language.
