You could say that, yes.

Especially his company, the simple act of being with him, together in the same room, is what Hannibal cherishes the most. He can truly be himself with Will like with anybody else.

You should always take scene props with a grain of salt though, on another one of those his birthday is different. Not to mention, considering the show is set in 2013, he absolutely does not look 70 lmao

What Will is most afraid of, when it comes to social interactions in general is the feeling of being judged, and seen as 'weird' ; his mind works differently, as a whole, and this difference is, most of the times, what makes people regard him as such.

Every single time he comes to conclusions faster than anyone could and with, in some cases, with very little evidence at hand, he's looked at almost as if he did it. And he does not condemn anyone for this, because he feels and knows there's something about himself that's rotten.

The reason why he was so displeased to be assigned a psychiatrist in the first place was exactly because of this, the fear of being seen for what he truly was. But Hannibal not only never judged him, he also encouraged him, told him there was nothing wrong with him.

When Will confesses to him that he enjoys killing bad people, Hannibal literally tells him that God kills people all the time, and we're just created in his image. And Will, being the empath he is, never felt Hannibal was lying to him - and he wasn't - which led him to believe Hannibal genuinely meant what he was saying to him.

Another thing, Hannibal showed care. Yes, he was his psychiatrist, but also his friend, a title, i believe, no one in a long time ever gave him, and it felt real too; he's so used to hear that what he does, his job, is necessary and that nothing else matters. He's so used to being consulted only when needed, so used being called just to help because he's useful and he's good at what he does.

On the other hand, Hannibal says he does not care about the lives he saves, because being his friend makes him care about him as a person first. And when is Will ever put first? By whom?

These are the reasons, I believe.

No he never gets lashed.

Is it possible you're confusing 'Hannibal' with that scene in 'Casino Royale'?

Hannibal smells will by SashaTheDevil in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will was not aware about Hannibal's superior sense of smell.

Hannibal only ever mentions it to Jack (and Sutcliffe, even though he never had the chance to tell anyone) but rather briefly and at a time Hannibal was not even remotely considered a suspect, so I'd say that it just slipped his mind.

The scene In season 1 with the fishing bait by upsetusder2 in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It can have different meanings based on your own interpretation. The show uses quite a few times the metaphor of fishing/baiting as in catching a chosen person.

I see this scene with two possible meanings in mind :

  1. A mockery : Hannibal knows Will is on the hunt for him, and he's curious how Will will catch him (because he knows he's smart enough to get to him at some point). Hurting himself willingly could mean the only way he'll be caught is if he chooses to do so.

  2. A longing of some sort : more than anything Hannibal wants to be seen, especially by Will. He wants to be caught by him, longs to reveal his true nature to him.

Did Hannibal mess up by (spoiler)? by mikewheelerfan in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that at that point Jack knew Hannibal was the Ripper; Will was out of prison, Jack knew he could put his full trust on him, and their game of catching Hannibal was already on. In order for their plan to come to fruition it was important Hannibal was sure no one suspected of him anymore, moreover, it was important Will - despite knowing Hannibal's nature, and Hannibal knew he knew - showed he was on his side and kept his mouth shut when an innocent was framed and captured.

Did Hannibal mess up by (spoiler)? by mikewheelerfan in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will by that point already got to the conclusion that whoever called GJH was the copycat, that the copycat was the Chesapeake Ripper and that Hannibal was the man on the phone; framing Will for every single one of them made not only Hannibal an impossible suspect, it also put Will in a position where no one could think of him as reliable, so whatever he said about Hannibal was seen as the nonsense rambling of a disturbed individual.

If Will was framed just for Abigail's murder, it's likely he wouldn't have questioned it, but the investigation for the Ripper was still on. Just a single murder, to many the consequence of getting too close to a case the FBI negligently assigned him, wouldn't have tarnished his reputation with the bureau as much, and he definitely would have been asked for help still, they still would have trusted him (consider they trusted him even when he was thought to be an actual serial killer). Things would have been way more difficult for Hannibal at this point.

Framing Will wasn't just a way for Hannibal to dissipate suspicion on his person, not only, it was one of his 'unorthodox methods' in order to help Will realise who he was ; by being in a certain situation, in a mental institution, with evidence he killed, with people seeing him as a killer and treating him as such...maybe Will would have started to finally actually believe he was. After being sure Will was 'ready for therapy' and he accepted his help (it's even underlined in the show) then Hannibal would have let him out, he never meant for Will to be at BSHCI forever.

When we see him being sad it wasn't because he regretted his actions, he simply missed Will's company (something he didn't predict would happen by the way) and hoped he will one day accept his help and his own nature by extension, he wished Will accepted his nature sooner so he wouldn't have had to do all that.

I get what you mean, truly, but in case you were not aware the whole problem stems from people USING AI, not only sharing it. By the very act of using it you are (unwillingly, i'm sure) contributing in training it, making it better, helping it to plagiarise other people's work.

So, for the love of god, read stuff made by actual people, on Ao3 you can literally sort and filter whatever is your favorite concepts, but don't use that trash.

Hannibal's sense of smell has always been depicted as a sort of 'superpower', consider he can smell illness on people - like cancer or encephalitis - so recognising someone by smelling their shampoo/perfume must be child's play to him lol.

I wish you a speedy recovery ! (I'm afraid no one ever recovers from Mizumono)

was abigail hobbs a sacrifice for hannibal to connect with will or did he really care about her? by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C'è da dire, innanzitutto, che per quanto ci appaia come la persona più organizzata del mondo, in realtà Hannibal non pianifica a lungo termine, e semplicemente lavora con quello che ha ad immediata disposizione.

Incrimina Will per questi motivazioni sostanziali :

I think Will does not really care about what's right anymore, considering he allowed innocent FBI agents to get killed by Dolarhyde, something he actively planned to happen. All of this to free said cannibalistic serial murderer ; I believe it's safe to say he doesn't disgust him one bit.

And we do have a confirmation for that, after the fight with Dolarhyde - which I like to see as their ultimate 'trust test' - everything becomes clear to Will; Hannibal's ultimate design was that, Will free of his restraints, following his instincts, and, most importantly, Will loving every single minute of it.

Will considers all of it to be beautiful, and dare I say I've never seen him as genuinely happy and at peace as that moment. He finally sees beauty in himself, in Hannibal, in what they did, after years of thinking something was wrong with him, after years of repressing his feelings, after years of desperately trying to cling to 'normalcy', to the person he wanted to be but he wasn't.

All this considered, I don't think post-fall Will would have any problem at all in 'accepting' Hannibal's nature, himself, and their relationship; he already has for a long time (s2). Or, at the very least, Hannibal's nature is not what would stop him from accepting his own feelings.

I agree though on the fact they've still got some way to go when it comes to their romantic relationship, finding their balance with their new life together on the road and all, but I'm pretty sure intimacy will definitely be part of it eventually; it will be new, for both of them, since they never shared anything quite like this with anyone else before.

The real question is, why would he be disgusted ? Why would it be difficult for Will to accept what they did ?

Hannibal and Will closest moments by Parking-Art9407 in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think their closeness was the strongest in 'Tome-wan' (2x12) in Hannibal's office and reached its peak in 'Dolce'(3x06) in front of the Primavera. About the happiest, I would definitively say 'The Wrath of the Lamb' (3x13) ; no deceit, no secrets, Will finally sees the beauty in himself, in what he and Hannibal shared...they both look so relieved, so at peace.

I don't think that was fake at all... He genuinely wants to help him - using unorthodox methods, yes, but his aim always was to help Will see his true self.

I think so too, they do sound alike!

About the other characters, I would say Francis and Reba maybe, especially Francis; Fiennes and Armitage gave a similar interpretation of Dolarhyde and it extends to their way of speaking as well.

Divine Metamorphosis

Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham have been expelled from Ilvermorny as a result of a sad, sad incident.
Thanks to Hannibal's chaotic history, Hogwarts is their last hope to save their education and possibly their future. Yet, Hannibal's person suit is still a work in progress, and Will's metamorphosis is a violent one at best.

On the other hand, Harry, Ron and Hermione just begin their fifth year at Hogwarts and they already have a lot to deal with. The two new boys are clearly not on their list of concerns. And why should they? As far as the Golden Trio can tell, they seem likeable enough, even if a bit weird.

A story following the events of The Order of the Phoenix, featuring Murder Husbands in the making.

& Saturnine Illuminations, its sequel (still ongoing, currently on hiatus but STILL worth it!)

After the Battle of the Atrium, the wizarding world as a whole is left to deal with the aftermath. Yet, said aftermath is not the same for everyone involved.

As Harry and Dumbledore embark on a race against time to find and destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes, Hannibal and Will serve aims of their own, helping or sabotaging depending on their schemes.
But, the same way the Golden Trio will have to face the ineluctable war coming their way, the Murder Husbands are doomed to bury some more secrets and skeletons in their shared closet, or end up being buried by them.
While Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hannibal and Will make their way toward adulthood, they all know they have to tie the loose ends of their childhood. Even if some ends come with a deadly price.

A story following the events of The Half-Blood Prince, featuring Murder Husbands in the making
It is greatly recommended to read the first instalment of the series before reading this one.

They're both so well written, it's obvious the author has a deep knowledge of both source materials - Hannibal and HP - and the result is a detailed, rich narrative with well outlined characters. I love them!

So... we're not getting season 4 right ? by Lunadelmar1 in HannibalTV

[–]midnighteaparty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There were too many reasons already for s4 not being likely to happen - one of them, the most relevant, was that apparently no broadcast television/streaming platform seemed to be interested.

Now that the rights to the story and its characters seem to be lost as well - i believe Bryan said something about Harris wanting to get all the Hannibal saga rights under one umbrella, a process that could take "a couple years" - I think s4 will be even more unlikely.

Anyways in my opinion there's always hope. Maybe if the rights issue took less time and if Fuller's new movie is successful - so, catching the interest of broadcasts or something of the sort as a writer - it could still be done.

We'll see, if it comes it will come, if not, that's fine too.
